Black Hat Miniatures: 28mm East Asian Painted Plywood Kits

Black Hat Miniatures: Several years ago we supplied some of our Chinese fantasy “Tales of the Dragon Kings” range to Renaissance Miniatures as part of their Kickstarter for a range of East Asian style 28mm plywood buildings.  The Kickstarter was a great success and Renaissance Miniatures went on to produce a whole range of different building kits.

Steve and Renee of Renaissance have decided to close and no longer supply these kits.  We are very pleased to announce that we have licensed the East Asian range of kits to accompany our Tales of the Dragon Kings range and will be producing these in-house in the UK. All the kits are made from lasercut plywood and are supplied painted ready to use after assembly.  They come with removable roofs to allow the insides of the buildings to be used and a full set of instructions for assembly.

The initial releases in the range are:

EA004 Arched Bridge - £10

More buildings will follow over the next few months as we sort out the cut files and get everything painted, cut and into stock. Colonel Bill’s will be carrying these buildings at shows and will have these first releases at the Claymore show.

Wargames Terrain Workshop: Future City Street Vending Stalls

Wargames Terrain Workshop: This month we visit trade street in our Future City Scenics range, with four street vending stalls. We have a drink's stall, food stall, boutique, and hoverboards stall. We are also introducing a new section Future City Citizens, with six models to start this section. These models compliment the vending stalls but could easily be used in other situations. We have a coffee zombie, two snack shack patrons, a fashion victim with impatient child and two hoverboard patrons.

The Toa Orcs team consists of wild orcs living on islands in the far sea. These are experienced navigators and warriors, they often make raids on the banks of Nippon and Katai. They are known as fierce dangerous opponents both on the battlefield and on the football field. The team will contain 2 blockers, 2 linear orcs, 2 blitzers, 2 throwers and one big guy. A short story like fans from New Zealand and authors from Russia agreed to do miniatures together. Initially, we released our first miniature Orc blocker from the team for a fantasty football called Maori Orcs. After the publication, representatives from New Zealand contacted us, some of them resented the use of the word Maori in the name of the team, since they often use the name Maori to increase popularity. In our case, this is not entirely true, since we were inspired to create miniatures in the Maori style, to study the history of the people and culture. One Maori representative from the NZ BB suggested changing the name to Toa oracle (Toa, translated from a Maori warrior, brave, champion, winner), we liked this offer and we decided to change the name of our team from Maori Orcs to Toa Orcs. In the future, we plan to continue cooperation with NZ BB to better reflect the essence of the rich Maori culture in our miniatures.

BigRedBat: New Western Desert Wargaming Mats

BigRedBat: Today I’m launching the latest mat that I’ve imported from Deep-Cut Studios. These are called “Western Desert” and consist of sand and rocks interspersed with dusty bushes. I had the mats designed because I’d not come across a mat useable for the fighting in North Africa from 1940 to 1942; battles including Operation Crusader, Gazala and Alamein. They are, of course, also useful for many ancient and medieval battles in North Africa or Palestine.

I stock the mats in 6’ by 4’ and 4’ by 3’ sizes, both with and without grids. The gridded versions are perfect for games such as “to the Strongest” and the much anticipated “Rommel.” These cloth mats are light and can be washed, ironed, and folded or rolled away for storage. Sam Mustafa Publishing: Rommel is a tabletop game of great battles in the European and Mediterranean theatres of the Second World War.

The player takes the role of a general commanding an entire division, or elements of several divisions, or an entire corps or even an army. Units represent companies and battalions. Tens of thousands of men and machines clash for control of miles of territory. Make decisions about the application of air power, engineering, the use of reconnaissance, the commitment of mobile reserves, and many other things.

Rommel can be played with miniature figures and terrain -OR- with “unit cards” on any flat surface. You may in fact use both in the same game, since the cards can act as labels and play-aids for your bases of miniatures. The basic game introduces players to the operational decisions of a second world war general. Two players can complete a game in 2-3 hours. The full advanced game features: Large battles and multi-player games. A complete army and battlefield creation system for fictional scenarios, including thirteen army lists for six major powers. Guidelines for players who want to create their own historical scenarios from famous battles. Detailed rules for things like amphibious and airborne operations, cavalry, minefields, pioneer and special assault units, and much more.

Fact and Fiction

Use Rommel to recreate your favorite historical battles, or use its army-building system to create fictional armies from six major nationalities during all periods of the war. The “Open Architecture” system allows you to modify the game’s points and units to create any other nationalities and armies, or interesting What-Ifs. (For example, what if Fascist Spain had joined the war in 1941? What if the Americans had entered before Pearl Harbor?) A unique scenario creation system allows players to “bid” for the resources with which to create their armies and then automatically adjusts scenario conditions and choices accordingly. There is no scripted “attacker and defender.” Instead, a player who chose to fight at a disadvantage in points has many advantages in the creation of the scenario. Rommel is Coming in 2017 - The game will be available in late summer 2017.
