Victrix: Steve Hales here, giving you an update on all that is going behind the scenes at Victrix. I’m very pleased to give a sneak peak of 4 new sets we have been working on… Dark Age Irish & Dogs, Dark Age Picts & Scots, Ancient Thureophoroi and Medieval Islamic Horse Archers. We have recently taken on a large number of new sculptors, dramatically increasing our design capacity. So expect to see the rate of releases ramp up very soon.

To make a quick point on the 28mm German Infantry, apologies for the delay on these. We needed to make a slight alteration on one of the sprues which pushed the tooling schedule back 4-6 weeks. This is now sorted and these should be on order within 2-3 weeks. We absolutely can not wait for you guys to see these, everyone who has seen the plastics has said they are a ‘game changer’. The Foot knights will follow a few weeks behind them.

Dark Age Irish & Dogs: This is going to be a stunning set with an 8 figure main frame armed with javelins, slings, swords, axes and spears plus a large variety of heads and shield options. And a separate frame with 4 war dogs, 2 handlers and 2 Warlord/standard bearer figures.

Dark age Picts and Scots: This set will represent Picts and Scots to fight from the Age of Invasions, Age of Arthur and into the Viking age. It will be a 36 figure set and full of cloak and hood options to give them a distinct Pict/Scots feel. To finish off all the British Kingdoms we have started on Scots/Irish/Welsh nobles, cavalry and skirmishers! Yes we did say Welsh!

Thureophoroi: These troops alongside the phalanx were a dominant troop type in Later Greek and Macedonian Successor armies. Operating in a Peltast style but also used in close formation in the battle line armed with javelins, long thrusting spear and a Thureos shield similar to the Celtic shield.

Islamic Horse Archers: Horse archers were the backbone and majority troop type of all Islamic armies during the Crusades. We have a great mix of heads for this set depicting Seljuk and Turkoman warriors. Turkomans fought in extensive numbers as auxiliaries in Seljuk and other Islamic forces.

Victrix: New Plastic Medieval Crossbowmen & Archers!

Victrix: Medieval Crossbowmen & Archers! We are so excited to show you the first images of the Medieval Crossbowmen and archers. These will join the mounted knights, foot knight, and foot sergeants in the Western Medieval range.

For those who are familiar with our Norman Crossbowmen you will see the later development in the crossbow on these figures. A stirrup has been added to the end of the weapon to help in drawing back the string. You would put your foot into the stirrup, attach the draw string to the hook on the belt and straighten your leg and lean upwards pulling the draw string to cock the bow. This made loading a lot quicker and led to the development of a more powerful crossbow.

These figures can be used in the Crusades and Europe from the late 12th to late 13th centuries. Europe was a hotbed of conflict and you can use them on the fields of France, Spain, Germany and England during the Barons wars and conflicts with the Scots, Welsh and Irish. We have also included some archers in Gambeson. You can mix these with and use alongside a lot of the figures in our Dark Age archers set to give you a fantastic amount of variation in your archer units.

The English infantrymen adopted the bow as their principal weapon from Henry III assize of arms in 1242 and so fielded large forces of archers whereas the Crossbow was more widely adopted by the French. The Italians, Gascons and Catalans were also famed for the expertise with the Crossbow. General Medieval tactics tended to be the infantry including spearmen, archers and Crossbowmen forming a solid block in the centre. The cavalry would attack and then pullback to reform behind the solid infantry wall before charging out to attack again.

This will be a 36 figure set, giving you 24 Crossbowmen and 12 archers. You will get numerous arm and head options as you have come to expect from us! That every figure can be made an individual. These are now off to the tooling department and will follow on the tail of the Foot Knights and Foot Sergeants. We have a lot of exciting stuff in the works at the moment which will announce in due course. You are all in for a treat!

Victrix: New Plastic Medieval Foot Sergeants Preview

Victrix: Medieval Foot Sergeants! This is a selection of poses from the Medieval Foot Sergeants set due out shortly from Victrix. It will be a 32 figure set representing Medieval Foot Sergeants of the late 12th to late 13th Century, and contain some great poses and an enormous amount of variety in weapons, heads and costume.

Weapons include a large array of polearms, 2 handed axes, spears, swords, hand axes, maces, shields and even a few Batwing cleavers. There are arms to create command figures, including standard bearer arms, Hornblowers and a bit of a first in Medieval plastic... a drummer beating the charge.

The heads have some fantastic expressions and character, and the headwear varies from a plethora of Kettle Helmet styles, bowl type helmets, flat topped helmets and some just wearing arming caps. Armour styles consist of just a Gambeson or Aketon or one over the top of the other which was common. Mail Hauberks and some with all mail legs and arms for the more heavily equipped soldiers of the time. Notice the raised padded neck collar on the padded armour which was common and added more protection to the vulnerable neck.

This set will be great for use in the Crusades or in any Feudal European setting, be it the Barons war the Spanish Reconquista or Italians, French, Germans or troops from the Low countries. We have also nearly finished our Medieval crossbowmen and archers set, which will also have extra arms that can be used on this set, adding even more variety to the growing Victrix Medieval range. Stay tuned for more news.

We still in the process of getting everything up and running for LBMS, and we have lots cool sets in the works that we can't wait to show off! In the meantime, what better way to start the year than with a beautiful shot of our Medieval Knights charging across the battlefield. Victrix: Victrix Purchases Little Big Men Studios

Victrix: We are pleased to finally officially announce the very exciting news that Victrix has purchased Little Big Men Studios. As many of you know, Steve from Little Big Men Studios founded Victrix with Julian in 2008, officially leaving the business in 2014 to focus on building LBMS into the go-to brand for shield and flag transfers. Steve is the mastermind behind the design of Victrix miniatures. Over the past 10 years he has continued to research and conceptualise every Victrix set. He also manages our team of sculptors, at the same time as running LBMS, where he designs and produces (by hand) every sheet of transfers that’s leaves the shelf.

As of January 2025, Victrix will take over the production of the LBMS transfers, and Steve will officially join Victrix as Head of Design. The impact on both businesses will be incredibly positive. Steve's time will be freed up to do what he does best… design! LBMS is currently a one man band, so instead of spending the vast majority of his days printing, backing, cutting, punching & bagging transfer sheets. Steve can now focus on designing new transfers (for all manufacturers) and of course, new Victrix miniatures. A LOT more of them!

This is a very exciting time for us. Until now both Victrix & LBMS have had one hand tied behind their backs, however by taking over LBMS, we essentially unlock a vast source of creative value. This will ultimately benefit all wargamers and hobbyists who enjoy the periods and ranges both businesses already cover, plus all the new ranges yet to come. More here

Victrix: New 12mm Plastic WWII 8th Army and Afrika Korps Preview

Victrix: 12mm WW2 8th army and Afrika Korps update: A bit of an update for all your 12mm WW2 fans out there! The 8th army infantry frame is off to be tooled now so should be ready in a few weeks.

We changed this frame composition up a little on this set by adding in a 2pdr antitank gun and crew to give them a little more firepower. The 2pdr comes with a chassis for limbered and unlimbered. If limbered you can use this in conjunction with the Victrix 12mm Universal carriers released earlier this year (this has desert crew options) You get a good mix of riflemen, Tommy Gunner NCO’s, Bren gunners (more added to this set due to customer demand) Officers, Mortar crew, radio operators, mine detectors for those pesky German minefields which played such an important role in the North African campaign, and Vickers and crew.

We did have some people mention they thought the bayonet was too early, however to make the later bayonet at 12mm it was just far too fragile. It would snap a lot and possibly not even tool! So we went with the sword bayonet which is more robust and won’t break. You will get 4 double frames in each set.

For those eager to know, we have also started work on the 12mm Afrika Korps. 8 figures in so a little way to go, but not too long before they are off to be tooled. Yasmin has been doing a fabulous job on all these latest 12mm releases and seems to get better with each new release. The detail levels are great and we are really trying to push the boundaries on what we can produce. Even down to the eagle badge over the right breast pocket on the Germans! You will notice that some of the German infantry have 2 water bottles hanging from their belts. Water was so important in the desert and they would carry as much as they could. We have also added goggle and face scarves on some which adds a real flavour to the miniatures.

The Islamic Infantry are much closer than you think, listen out for information on these in the coming weeks. Rus - With a bit of luck, these beauties will be on order next week!
