Oakbound Studio: All The Giants Aren't Dead! Brian Froud Style Giant Kickstarter!

Oakbound Studio: A colossal miniature based on the artwork of Brian Froud. Almost half a century ago Mary Norton wrote a children's' novel called "Are All The Giants Dead?" The illustrator of this book? None other than the legendary Brian Froud who would only a few years later embark on the iconic "Faeries" book with Alan Lee. Already the classic style of Brian's work is evident in the characters from this fairy tale retelling, and nowhere more so than in the Giant himself.

It has been one of our aspirations at Oakbound to feature art by people who have inspired our fantasy journey in our publications. In 2020 we acquired permission from the rights-holder to print this image and to create a miniature based upon it. The artwork (and rules for using The Giant in games of The Woods) went into Mythic Cycles (2021) and now we have the model ready for production! The Giant was hand sculpted using a variety of clays and putties. He stands a whopping 75mm from his soles to the top of his greasy hair. If he stood up straight he'd be much taller! Check the full Kickstarter now here!

Oakbound Studio: Courts of Annwyn - Fae Characters for Tabletop Gaming Kickstarter Preview

Oakbound Studio: Oakbound present the next in our continuing series to bring the various factions of our Celtic folklore world to life in miniature. Following on the trail of the gnomes, goblins, bucca, gnawlochs and pixies come the creatures that started it all, the fae. This campaign is to raise funds for production moulds for a series of fae characters and retainers which can be used in any fantasy miniatures game. The nobles would make good pirates or Venetian-style carnival-goers whilst the armoured fae martial have been designed to complement renaissance soldiery. Once the main goal has been met we have a series of additional miniatures waiting in the wings...

Oakbound Games: The Woods: Secrets of Shandisholm - Celtic Folklore Miniature Roleplaying Kickstarter

Oakbound Games: Oakbound Studio are excited to announce that the first sourcebook for SystemMech, the chance-free tabletop roleplay system, will be available for pre-order from Friday 1st July. The Woods: Secrets of Shandisholm expands the world of Celtic myth hinted at in the first Oakbound Kickstarter, journeying to the lowlands of the Mortal Realm where the hidden war between the Fae and the Myeri impacts the lives of the tribal Tuatha.

Believe the tales they told you… every word is true. There are trees in the heart of the forest older than mortal memory. They have seen the coming of the demons from the sea, the one-eyed creatures pursued by the great evil. They have seen the Fair Folk dance across the void, filling the land with their servants. They have seen cruelty, violence and fear. Still they watch, as the mortals rebuild their world, and countless strange and terrible creatures watch along with them from the darkness of the woods.

Across the Void they came- the World Dancers, the Fine Folk, The Fae. Beautiful but cruel twisters of fate. They dragged their slaves along with them, all manner of strange folk flowing through the gates from distant planes and into the Mortal Realm. There they found two races living. The cyclopean Myeri they drove into the swamps, taking from them the source of their power. The primitive Tuatha they adopted as their protégés, but the Tuatha learnt fast. Too fast.

Secrets of Shandisholm transports you to the world of The Woods, where folklore is more than superstition and where fate weaves intricate webs around its inhabitants. Inside you’ll find a detailed account of the forests, fens and plains of the Mortal Realm and the creatures that live there, both natural and other-worldly. The book contains profiles, skills and items for roleplaying adventures in this setting, ideas for narratives, scenarios and characters and a comprehensive guide to modelling and painting miniatures and scenery.

Secrets of Shandisholm uses Oakbound Studio’s SystemMech rules, a system where no dice are rolled and no cards drawn. The only element of chance lies in the actions of the other players and careful planning and strategy are needed to succeed. SystemMech’s simple principles and versatile action tables allow your adventures to unfold in any direction you can imagine and create an immersive roleplay experience more comprehensive than the usual hack and slash. Secrets of Shandisholm has a unique Fateweaver Action table, introducing an original concept of magic its world of Celtic myth.

Secrets of Shandisholm is available to pre-order at Oakbound.co.uk from July 1st. You can also download the complete SystemMech core rules from the website. Look out for the new boxed sets of The Woods miniatures coming this summer.

Oakbound Games: Oakbound Games Webshop Launched

Oakbound Games has recently launched their own webshop if you have never heard of Oakbound Games before make sure to check them out here. Welcome to our new shop! The gremlins are out of the shopping cart, some other creatures have taken their place and the webstore is open for business.

We’re starting with the first otherworldly creatures to venture into the world of mortals… according to the background of the forthcoming board and roleplay system The Woods. The Myeri are a race of semi-aquatic, cyclopean beings who emerged from the oceans. They are somewhat afraid of humans and tend to stay away from settlements, building their homes along coastlines and waterways.

When the Fae entered the world they drove the gentle Myeri from the palaces of rock they had built, into the swamps and fens. Due in no small part to Fae propaganda, the Myeri acquired a bad name among mortals who refer to them as ‘Marsh Demons’ and blame them for the disappearance of cattle and children. The Myeri appreciate this reputation for it keeps humans away from their settlements, but the occasional mob roused to flush out the Marsh Demons from their homes is an unpleasant side effect.

For this reason the Myeri have forged allies with the larger creatures of the fens, the powerful Woldlice and sinister Kelpies, to further deter the attentions of mortals. Sculpting has begun on Hillfolk, Faefolk, Merfolk, Minefolk and Woodfolk ranges which will join the Fenfolk in the near future.
