Pirates of the Dread Sea is a set of rules for fighting skirmish level battles between pirate and privateer crews in a fantasy world populated by men, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, trolls and other fantasy creatures. The game is fast paced, simple, fun and full of piratey goodness. Or badness. Depending on how you feel about pirates. Although a single skirmish of PODS will provide entertainment and fun on its own, the real satisfaction will come from forming a crew who grow in talent and experience, amassing treasures, sailing the 11 seas, vanquishing foes and becoming the subject of shanties of about their adventurous endeavours for years to come. This Kickstarter campaign allows you to pledge for the game rules, human and skeleton pirate crews, extra components or all of those things! 

The Rules

Pirates of the Dread Sea is a fast playing, fun skirmish tabletop game. The rules describe how to play the game including making and customising characters and crews, playing single games, campaigns and upgrading your crews as you continue to play. The rulebook will also include the background and history of the Dread Sea, artwork and photographs all bound in a beautiful, hardback, full colour A4 book. The game is a fast playing skirmish game for 2 or more players. Each game is played around a scenario, with the most simple being: grab a treasure chest and get it back to where you started (your base or boat/ship). Gold coins are awarded for scenario objectives and for taking out enemies. 

The game is intended to be played in Campaigns, where in between adventures, all crew members can be upgraded with new skills and traits dependent on their role, experience and race. In game, players take it in turns to activate a single character once per turn. Most character can then perform two actions (with Captains and some others able to carry out three) such as moving, shooting, hding, looking for treasure etc. All Actions (other than movement) depend on a 2D6 dice system, whether that be a roll against Leadership to receive an Order, To Hit with a ranged weapons, or against an enemies Parry roll in close combat.

Dead Earth Games: Warbears and Stagriders, Fantasy Wargames Miniatures Kickstarter

Dead Earth Games: This is a simple and straightforward project which aims to put miniature wargaming units of Warbears and Stagriders in your hands without a two year delivery wait. 

We have created one of each of the two sets of beasts and riders so far, which you can see painted examples of here. They are 28mm scale and made of white metal alloy. They are unpainted and come in several parts each. They were designed to be used with our The Shattered Crown wargame rules but will fit any number of fantasy settings, or simply look fabulous in your display cabinet. This Kickstarter is to raise funds to expand these models into units, by sculpting and then casting variations of the existing models. In the case of the bear, two new poses for the bear, and two new riders, whilst for the stags, two new poses for the beasts themselves and 5 new variations of rider. This will be sculpted and cast by the exact same team as the ones we already have, so you needn’t worry about the quality.
