Sprue Grey: Wargame Hobby Magazine - The Golden D6 Issue Eleven Reviewed!

Today we will take a look at the eleventh issue of The Golden D6 - The Online Wargame Hobby Magazine! This issue again features loads of useful painting and terrain building articles from talented wargamers worldwide.

The Golden D6 is an online wargame hobby magazine created by Sprue Grey led by Adam Jones supported by a whole host of talented wargame bloggers of which many names may sound familiar to you. Succesfully gathering the coolest online miniature content in one place. They offer you the best wargame articles in one nicely edited magazine allowing you to further enhance your miniature painting, terrain collection and other aspects of our tabletop miniature hobby in no time!

The Golden D6 - Issue Eleven

The Golden D6 is an online wargame magazine which can be easily bought and downloaded from the Sprue Grey website as a portable document format also better known as PDF. After a quick registration you can be reading the lastest issue and exploring the lastest wargame content in less than five minutes. During the rest of this review you will find our personal top three articles included in this new issue.

Full content of this issue

- A painting tutorial by Chris at Nightshade Miniatures
- Ancient Vaako from Khorne's Eternal Hunt
- Our cover feature on the Iron Snakes from Marc
- A T.N.T warband and background from Matt
- Detail Painting Deathguard from Adpaint
- Medieval Huts from Oakbound Studio
- Frostgrave terrain tutorials from Richbuilds.com
- Malifaux Sky Pirates from Sean
- Kings of War Drakon Rider conversions from Pawel at Path of an Outcast

Medieval Huts! - My favorite part of the wargame hobby is building terrain for both my own wargame table and that of wargamers worldwide so I'm always looking for new tips and tricks to build convincing scenery. I have found all the things I was looking for in the cool Medieval Hut tutorial by Oakbound Studio in which they build some cool fantasy - historical thatched round huts!

The article offers you a fully illustrated and explained tutorial starting with the used materials and ending with the excellent looking scenery as featured below in the picture! If you love terrain, you will love this article to build your own excellent thatched huts. Making a settlement is a quick and easy way of adding interest and character to your terrain board. Most of the materials are easily found around the home and (not including drying time) each hut takes less than half an hour to build.

Malifaux Sky Pirates! - In this very thorough painting tutorial experienced model painter Sean Hook shows you how to assemble and paint your Sky Pirates for use in the popular Wyrd Games Malifaux miniature game. The tutorial starts with the assembly and priming of the miniatures followed by painting schemes, along with the used brand paints for a variety of frequenly used colors on these miniatures such as metals and browns.

After all the painting techniques and colors are covered which are used on the majority of the miniatures. Sean also explains other painting schemes for two miniatures who need a slightly more specific approach. If you're looking to paint these particular Malifaux miniatures and need some help, make sure to check this article. But it's also useful for other miniature model painters as some useful methods of painting certain colors and/or effects are also explained. Highly approved!

Frostgrave Terrain Tutorials - As previously mentionned I love terrain but also like Frostgrave the cool fantasy miniature skirmish game by Osprey Games. So the last article I will cover sounds like a match made in heaven as Richard Allsebrook shows us how to make Frostgrave scenery using nothing more than some blue foam, scrap wood and imagination!

This particular tutorial allows you to quickly fill a tabletop with ruined gateways and buildings for your miniature wargames and/or diorama's. Richard shares his excellent methods for texturing blue foam and painting the finished structures in a very realistic look as you can see in the picture below. This is easily my most favorite article of this The Golden D6 Issue and I very highly approve this tutorial and will most certainly use several of the mentionned technique in my own builds.

The Conclusion

The Golden D6 Issue Eleven is again a knowledge treasure trove for wargamers and miniature collectors worldwide in which experienced and talented wargamers share their top-notch painting and building techniques with the readers. As you have seen in the featured articles there's something for every wargamer and his favorite aspect of the hobby so wait no further and download your issue today!
