The Drowned Earth: New Kaneda on Mantis and More Unlocked - Final Kickstarter Hours
The Drowned Earth Kickstarter is entering the final hours and more cool miniatures have been unlocked including the splendid Kaneda on Mantis and other cool stretch goals. Check the Kickstarter here and venture in the drowned lands of Ulaya!
We are now in the final 24 hours, and what a ride it's been! Another stretch goal crushed! Next it's just a little one, but one very close to my heart. What is a game universe without a map after all! A simplified version of this map will appear in the rulebook, but backers will also receive a higher resolution version PDF with a bit more detail, and some special locations which are interesting, but perhaps not as important as they could be. Everyone at the Master Builder pledge level will now receive the tokens we just unlocked absolutely free, and there's something else on the horizon too.
Once again, if you're at Master Builder level you'll get these beauties for free. So it's in your interests to keep the excitement going by forwarding this message to friends, telling them why they should back, posting on your favourite forums or club groups, and generally spreading the word far and wide. Lets get these guys unlocked before close of play too!
Competition Week: Final Competition - Your last chance to make a permanent creative mark on the rulebook, and Ulaya! The winning idea will be the starting point for an actual species in Ulaya, mentioned in the rulebook, and you'll be credited as a contributor. How cool is that? This one works a lot like the others. Comment below with your entry before the Kickstarter ends tomorrow at 5pm BST (GMT+1) and I will announce the winner next week. There's still time to enter in some of the others- I've only had a few 2D submissions and a handful of Proxy Miniature submissions also. So far the Youtube Playthrough competition is wide open! No entries yet!
Final words - Arg! Too exciting! Over the last month I've seen a vibrant, creative, enthusiastic and above all else friendly community grow up around this game and world I created. It's hard to put in to words what that means to me. Suffice it to say I have a little tear in my eye while writing this, and a boundless amount of enthusiasm and expectation for what we are going to be able to achieve in the future. Now, go and preach the word, like a wandering Ulaya Wayfarer!
Did you already upgrade your pledge level to Master Builder? Well, if you did, then it just got even better! Kaneda on Mantis will come on a 50mm base and be a big chunk of metal! I expect him to retail for about £26. So then, my jungle roaming friends, what's next? Well, a final token type seems like just the thing to have, don't you agree? As well as stealth markers for models like Slethssk and Lissz this pack also contains flame, swim and prone tokens as well as climb markers. And once again, if you've gone in for the new Master Builder pledge, you'll get these for free when we unlock them. Not bad eh?

The Drowned Earth: Kickstarter Competition Week Day 5: Coolest Character Concept!
The Drowned Earth: Hey folks! Before we get down and dirty with the next competition I thought it was time to summarise exactly what you're getting at each pledge level, and roughly how much you're saving over the estimated retail prices! Not bad eh? If you were considering bumping up to the next pledge level, but wondering if it was worth it or not, maybe now is the time? Also, feel free to share this with any friends of yours who have decided to wait for retail rather than back at Kickstarter- it really is worth it! Check the Kickstarter here
Competition 5: Character concept!
Who can come up with the coolest idea for a character, who will appear somewhere in the world fluff?! This won't be a miniature, so you can really let your imagination run wild with a non-combat character here. A couple of restrictions here. First, like the location concept, keep it under 5 sentences. Second, stick to one of the existing races please (save your species ideas for later...). Third, write a character, not an entire culture! Keep mostly focused on the person and their immediate situation, rather than trying to write a whole society around them :). As previously, to win comment below with your entry. Have at it!
Just a few more days now... There are still a few stretch goals we can break! For example, who doesn't want to see Kaneda on a Mantis unlocked before the campaign ends?! Might even be another dino in the sidelines too! So now really is the time to post on forums about the project, forward this mail to your friends, head on over to Twitter and Facebook and do all that lovely social media liking, commenting (especially important on Facebook!) and of course sharing!
All being well, I'll have a cool announcement tomorrow which a few people have been asking about. It's early days for it really, but that just makes it all the better for you folks! The Drowned Earth: Competition Week! Best Proxy Miniature!
The Drowned Earth: Just a quick update today. It's Wednesday, and the final episode of Choose Your Own Adventurer should be up right? Yes, it certainly should, but I'm going to have to update you all tomorrow instead. Sorry! However, I can announce the next competition, which is a rather fun one, and because it's quite involved, this time you have until the end of the campaign (5pm BST, Tuesday 16th). The prize is a copy of the Wayfarers faction! Cool huh?!
How to Enter
I'm aware that you can't post pictures on here. Instead, when you have an entry ready to post, sent me a PM here on Kickstarter and I'll send you an email address you can send the picture to. I'll post all the entries as an update after the campaign, and announce the winner shortly. Ok ok, whats a proxy? Well, If you want to start playing TDE right now, it's very simple. All you need to play is on the website in the Downloads section. However, a lot of people just don't like using paper standees. So you can use stand-in's instead! That is, models from another system which you've altered, painted or converted to look like characters from The Drowned Earth!
Points will be given for:
- Quality of paint job
- How much the model looks like the character it is proxying
- Any converting or alteration work you've gone to to make it look suitable for TDE
- Cool, and world-suitable basing
- There's no formula- I'll pick out the one I think is the coolest, taking the above in to consideration.
- Don't forget to tell me which model it is a proxy of!

The Drowned Earth: New Yuttaraptors Unlocked and Optional Rules Stretch Goal Announced
The Drowned Earth: The Yuttaraptors are here! Fast and furious, these large raptor models can be used by any faction, and in the future you might even see a scenario or two requiring them. I can't wait to see how people paint these! Grab these awesome hunters here on The Drowned Earth Kickstarter
People have had some great ideas in the comments section of the campaign, but some of the more fun ideas could be a bit unbalancing in the game. However, sometimes I'm just in the mood for silly fun. So, if we unlock this next stretch goal I will write an "Optional Rules" chapter, full of things like random encounters, danger zones, pickups and even rules for creating your own scenarios!
The rules won't be tournament legal, and so the chapter will only appear in the print version of the rulebook. Use of these rules is completely optional, but I think people will have a lot of fun throwing some of these ideas in to their games. Character Biographies! I've just finished uploading the character biographies of the Artifacters to the website. TThe Firm biographies will follow shortly (and their renders will be updated too). Honestly, I thought I'd have these done ages ago. Luckily though, the stretch goal train kept on going! We've slowed down a little bit now though, and so I've had a few moments to put them together. Two will go up on our Youtube Channel this evening, and I hope to get another two up tomorrow in the afternoon and evening.
Social Goals Smashed!
Two of our four social goals are gone gone gone! I'm pleased to announce that alongside the free Micro-RPG rules set everyone will be getting after the campaign, I'll also be writing a short adventure module for it. Thank all the folks on Facebook who've been busy helping us grow the campaign by sharing! If you haven't yet liked us on Facebook head on over and hit the thumbs up button, as there might be something special in store if we break another milestone before the campaign ends. Don't forget to hit the share button!
Thanks to all those likes I am going to include a Narrative Scenario in the rulebook. The book will contain the normal "vs mode" scenarios (5 or 6) as normal, but narrative scenarios were billed for a later release, as they are quite involved and more complicated. Anyway, I'm pleased about that as it'll give you all a taste of what's to come!
As you can see though, we're not done! Firstly, a few days ago I set up the "End of Campaign Push" thunderclap campaign. Our first Thunderclap was a roaring success, and I hope this one will be too. However, 250 is a big target! I hope we can make it, because despite being a lot of work, I think a quickstart ruleset will really help the game grow. Last off, Twitter. I love maps, and really would like to include one in the rulebook. We're not all that far away- we only need another 133 followers and its ours.
A quick word of thanks
I hope you're all enjoying the buzz of the campaign so far. I have to say, I'm overwhelmed by people's enthusiasm. Sure, I felt like I'd made a great game and some beautiful miniatures, and I hoped that people would like it. To see the level of involvement and community which has sprung up from literally day one is amazing to see- people have sent me fan fiction, set up a Facebook Fan Page and I've received absolutely loads of complimentary and supportive messages.
All I can say is thank you! It gives me even more energy and excitement to move to the next level, and make a truly great community, and a truly great game. My feet are firmly on the ground, and priority number 1, 2 and 3 are to get the kickstarter completed and delivered. Beyond that though, boy do I have some fun plans!

The Drowned Earth: New Yuttaraptors, Live Sculpting Event and Much More!

Once again we've smashed a target in no time, and anyone wanting to buy some fancy tokens for their The Drowned Earth game can now do so. now for something a little... hungrier! So far, the dinosaur models have been on the small and manageable side. However, the fearsome pack hunter Yuttas are something altogether different. A beast as big as a horse, these fellows can bite you in half as quick as look at you. And they're fast too! They rend armour with frightening efficiency, and what they lose in climbing ability they make up for in the ability to jump! On 40mm bases, these chunky dinos will strike fear in to your enemies. Again, our Beast models are faction neutral, and somewhere down the line we might even have a scenario or two for these guys.
Live Sculpting Date Announced! I literally cannot wait for this one. Have you ever wanted to know how 3D models are sculpted? On tuesday at 7:30 BST (-1 GMT) we will be broadcasting a live stream sculpting session with the very talented James W Cain, who sculpted most of The Firm and three of the Militia. What will he be sculpting you ask?
Well, I have the great pleasure of announcing a fifth planned faction, and what seemed like a suitable name?! As you can see these models will all be mercenaries, and are in fact the Gene Splicer pledge level models. Well, my original vision for those models is that they could join any faction, but they would not have a class role, or be able to benefit from a leader's "Command" ability. They are lone wolves! However, when played together as a single faction each model will be able to use its class ability as well as be commanded by the faction leader. And guess who that will be? Yes, you guessed it- our Zokal friend from the Choose your Own Adventurer event!
As the models will still be mercenaries anyone owning this faction will have a myriad of list building opportunities with their existing models. Cool huh? So this faction really is by the people, for the people, named after our most enthusiastic community members, the Wayfarers, and created by the Kickstarter backers. Of course I won't be able to show any concepts till after the campaign, so it won't be a stretch goal, but it's one for the future, regardless.
Yes indeed I did. One didn't seem like enough. Now, anyone pledging at the Get Wet pledge level of higher will receive a set of custom dice completely free. Huzzah! I know people are curious how they'll look. I'm talking to the manufacturer right now about that. I think it's unlikely we'll be able to show a prototype any time before the campaign ends, but I might be able to give some examples of typography and colour choices. We shall see.

The Drowned Earth: Raptor Mounted Nix and Templates Unlocked - Zokal Huntress Preview
The Drowned Earth: We officially have Nix on a Raptor, and now some rather spiffy templates! Don't forget to update your pledge if you want these! Nix is an additional £18, while these templates are £11 for the set of three. James also previewed some artwork on which a new character will be based the fearless huntress Zokal. The Drowned Earth: Raptor Mounted Nix and More Unlocked
The Drowned Earth: Mobility is important in The Drowned Earth, and stalking though the undergrowth with this savage beast under you can sometimes be just the thing! Giving the Artifacters some sorely needed close combat strength, a mounted version of Nix trades agility for raw speed and melee punch! She comes on a 50mm base, and yes, you can dismount during the game! Will your mount still be around when you return though? That's a risk you might just have to take.

The Drowned Earth: Dilophosaurs and... What Next?! More Unlocks Coming soon!
The Drowned Earth: Hello! We have broken through the Custom Dice unlock rather quickly. I'd just like to re-iterate that the pictured dice are illustrative only, and not representative of the dice we will supply, which will have an aesthetic suitable to the game, and be much less "generic". Now we are speeding towards unlocking the Dilophosaurs- Spitty! In a moment, we will have a closer look at these nasty little fellows, but first, a bit of news.

Target Aquired! Well, I've had a number of concerned people asking me what will happen when we run out of Stretch Goals to unlock? We're nearly there after all! The short answer, don't worry, Ive been working tirelessly to bring a few more interesting things to the table. I'm not quite ready for an announcement yet, but mysterious images have been found on a half operative thinking-engine. Footage of a somewhat familiar, and yet unfamiliar figure...I'll say no more about it for now!
Spitty! I'm sure some of you will now want to know what sort of abilities "Spitty" and pals have in the game. Rather like the Oviraptors, these guys are cheaper than the average character, and you should be able to substitute most characters for two of these little guys. While the Oviraptors are medium speed and vicious in close combat, these guys... well, spit! Their spit has the stun ability, which strips models damaged by the attack of an Action Point- fantastic denial. The downside of the models is that they are quite fragile, and so have to be used carefully to get maximum effect from their ranged ability. Once again these dinos are faction neutral, and can be used with any Crew. Very different to the Oviraptors, they bring another tactical dimension to your games, and give you some versatility when it comes to list building.

The Drowned Earth - Free Cards, Oviraptors Unlocked and Plenty More Good News

Shipping Badges Unlocked! Hey folks! I'm now in a position to assure US and Canadian backers that their parcels will go domestically, so no import tax for you fine ladies and gentlemen to worry about! Proudly displaying our badges! We were already EU friendly :). Ok, so shipping... not the most exciting of updates is it?
Oviraptors Unlocked! The good news is that we unlocked the Oviraptors, and are now just a shave away from unlocking the profile cards, which will be free to every backer, with each Character or dino-pack they purchase.
Play Styles, Character Bios and more - Next week I will be updating with a little more information on the play styles of each of the factions, and I'll be updating the website with some short bios of the Artifacters. Over the course of the campaign we'll meet all of the characters, so keep an eye out for that! I shall also be blogging a little on the fluff, and various other matters, but will announce those things in due course. Well, I hope you're all looking forward to the first part of the Choose Your Own Adventurer event tomorrow! The update will link to a poll where you can submit your choices, and we will see the results next week. Who else is excited? I know I am! Brief thanks once again: I know I've said it before, but the response to the game has been fantastic. I'm so pleased to see so many people as passionate about The Drowned Earth as I am. Is there someone you know who you think might like to hear about it too? Why not let them know?!
Free Cards Unlocked - Well I’m very happy about this one. Now every Character or Creature Pack (dinos) will ship with an appropriate reference card. You don’t need the reference cards to play, and they don’t serve any game function, but they make life much easier, particularly when starting out, or playing a crew you’re not familiar with. Yes, I realise we’re striking all the things off the stretchgoals chart. Don’t worry, I might have a few tricks up my sleeve. They might need to come out soon. They bite!
Next Unlock: The Dice - I know some people were a bit unimpressed by the dice picture:I’ve listed the photographs as “prototype only”, which is a bit misleading. The photo depicts generic dice I’ve altered to use for play testing. They are not the way the final dice will look- I do plan on making them much nicer than this! I can’t say more at the moment so I hope you’ll trust that I’ll do something nice looking :). I plan on having dice with a custom font on all sides, and pretty colours, appropriate to the rulebook. Now the one you’ve All been Waiting for!
Choose your Own Adventurer Part 1 - So how does this work? Below is the first part of a story. At the end of the story are a number of questions which you may answer by following a link to a survey. The answers to the questions will determine the nature of the character, as well as what they will do next! Each week we will post another episode until, at the end, we will have crafted a complete character (and have a drawing of them too, by the vey talented Paul Rigdon). All backers who have pledged for one or more Starter Crews will get a copy of this model absolutely free, as thanks for your support! So, lets get started! Note that this is only for Kickstarter backers, so pledge and help decide the future of The Drowned Earth!

The Drowned Earth: Decide The Future of The Drowned Earth
The Drowned Earth: The Drowned Earth Kickstarter got off to a strong start, funding in an hour and having broken through quite a few stretch goals already! Some data: Funded in 1 hour, All 4 factions unlocked in 6 hours and the Rulebook unlocked in first 24 hours
The guys at The Drowned Earth just announced something very exciting! A “Choose your own Adventurer” event, which will run for the course of the campaign. The game creator will be writing a short story in episodes, and at the end of each episode will be a poll with a number of questions for backers to answer. The results of these questions will determine things like: What species, What gender and Weapon load out
And of course how the character responds to what happens in the story! So a choose your own adventure story, but choosing the nature of the character too! Best part of it? At the end of the campaign the model will actually be sculpted, and all backers at Starter Box level or higher will get it for free! How cool is that? You can check out the Kickstarter here
