Sally 4th: Rising Tides 28mm Spy-Fi On, Under and Around The Water Kickstarter

Sally 4th: 44 years ago in 1977 I can remember going to the cinema to see the new Bond film, ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. It was a thrilling experience, Roger Moore’s third appearance as Bond and Barbara Bach co-starring as Agent XXX in the spirit of Perestroika and Glasnost working towards a common goal. The Spy Who Loved has remained one of my favourite Bond movies with the exhilarating down hill ski chase at the start, the Lotus Esprit that turns into a Submarine and that breath-taking climatic battle in the submarine pen constructed inside the worlds biggest container ship. I’ve always felt that battle epitomised Bond and that it would make a fantastic tabletop miniatures game, apart from… no one made the miniatures for 1970’s British, American & Soviet Submariners or Strombergs Crew in there distinctive boiler suits and berets… and the terrain was pretty challenging… until now.

Rising Tides in our fifth Classic Movies inspired Kickstarter and is all about 28mm Spy-Fi action on and under the water. We have taken ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ as a starting point and inspired by it have produced miniatures for our favourite Commander RN, together with RN & Soviet Submariners armed with SMGS, Stongbergs Crew in Boiler Suits and Berets, the famous WetBike, a slick sportscar with a submarine version and a set of terrain that is modular and can be used to build that famous submarine pen with its gantry, stairs, control room, jetties and submarine. We have designed the terrain with modularity in mind and the pieces are all compatible with our existing Terra-Former Modular terrain, held together by rare earth magnets. The pieces can be taken apart and used to make a marina, starship hold, giant warehouse, runway and many other layouts. Check out our Terrain Video to see what we mean.

A speedboat chase is another staple of the Bond movie. Rising Tides presents three classic speedboats that have featured in one or more Bond Movie, The Sunseeker-XS2000 with a top speed of 65 knots seen in Casino Royale, The Glastron Carlson CV23HT seen in Moonraker and the Glastron-GT150 which we see taking to the air in Live and Let Die. We have a number of stretch goals sculpted up and ready to go. Inspired by Thunderball we have some male and female scuba divers armed with fighting knives and harpoon guns together with a supporting Zodia RIB dive support boat. Royal Marine Commandos are always a handy support option for Commander Bond, so we sculpted a set of Commandos sculpted to go inside a Zodiac and another set on foot, sculpted in beach assault rig with SLR, ’58 pattern webbing and assault vests. Kickstarter (click here) is running until October 21st.

Sally 4th: New Fantasy Wars of Ozz, Wave 2 Kickstarter!

Sally 4th: Wars of Ozz is a fantasy miniatures game inspired by the marvellous world of Oz first chronicled by L. Frank Baum's books in 1900. This inspiration led to the creation of the totally unique mass battle tabletop experience that is Wars of Ozz. Check the Kickstarter here

Russ Dunaway has taken Baum's world as an inspirational starting point for creating our own 'Ozz', a post-apocalyptic Earth where after the last 'Madness Bomb' fell in the 'Last Great War', survivors mutated and chaos reigned for several hundred years until the Wizard arrived. Wave one of Wars of Ozz introduced us to the Winkies, Munchkin, Gillikins and Quadlings.

Wave two introduces three brand new playable factions: The Land of Harvest, The Impkins and the Imperial Gnome Army together with the strategic board game Campaigns of Ozz that can either be played as a standalone board wargame with counters and map boards or used as a campaign management tool for generating exciting and meaningful tabletop encounters.

Campaigns of Ozz has been developed by the experienced board game development team of Peter Schutze and Bill Molyneaux from Fastplay Wargames. It was designed to be both a standalone board wargame and a fully compatible strategic level scenario generator for miniature focussed players. All seven historical wars from the Wars of Ozz rulebook lore are detailed as separate campaigns.

The board game is easy to learn and is highly suitable for both solitaire play and play with 2-4 players, with typical games lasting from 2-4 hours. Each Campaigns of Ozz board game includes:

• 280 full color, 1" square die cut counters
• 34"x22" campaign map
• 24 page rulebook
• Player reference chart
• Battleboard map

Wars of Ozz, Wave 2 introduces three completely new playable factions The Land of Harvest, Impkins and The Gnomes. All of the miniatures for these three new armies are sculpted now and are available as part of the Kickstarter campaign.

The Land of Harvest: After being given life by Glenda the Sorceress, King Jack sets about creating an army to defend the Land of Harvest. The greater and lesser Pumpkin heads are joined by Pumpkin Cavalry and Pumpkin throwing catapult artillery together with animated scarecrows, corn and mushroom men, the outlandish Hammerheads and flock of crows and eagles.

Gnomes: Somewhere to the west of Munchkinland are the hidden cave entrances to another realm, the underground empire of the Gnome King and his Gnomens. Virtually nothing is known of these secretive beings as they almost never ventured to the surface until that fateful day when a Gilikin force, attempting to mine under a Munchkin fortress stumbled into a Gnomish cave complex. The enraged King Ruggedo called together Gnomish forces from far and wide to attack surface dwellers who had violated his realm.

Impkins: Impkins were created by the powerful sorceress Mother Ophelia as playthings for King Kittcut and Queen Garee. This explains their diminutive stature – even smaller than Munchkins – and doll-like appearance. For many years the Impkins lived in peace and prosperity on the island of Pingaree until a shipwrecked sailor from one of Admiral Jinjurs pirate fleet alerted them of a land beyond there island. King Kitticut, against Mother Opelias advice set off on an expeditionary adventure to visit the lands of Ozz, landing and doing battle with Evora and her Winkies. King Kittcut had had his first taste of battle, and he found it an exciting and enjoyable game, he cajoled Mother Ophelia to create more Impkins to fill his armies, who fought incessantly, not to capture lands and riches like the other nations of Ozz, but just to satisfy their perverted lust for battle.

Sally 4th: New Wars of Ozz Miniatures Game Preview

Sally 4th: Wars of Ozz is a 28mm Mass Fantasy Battle Game inspired by the ‘Oz’ series of books written by L. Frank Baum between 1900 and 1920. The inspirational literature has been greatly expanded by Russ Dunaway, to form a unique new fantasy gaming world to battle over, populated with Munchkins, Quadlings, Winkies and Gillikins combined with Witches, Wizards, Pumpkin Men, animated Scarecows and Tinmen, Giants, Trolls, Skeletons and much, much more. The miniatures range has been designed, sculpted and manufactured by Old Glory and when fully released will include 60 packs of miniatures.

The ‘Wars of Oz’ rules are written by Buck Surdu, author of Gaslight and Combat Patrol among many more published works. The game is a mass battle rather than a skirmish game. Infantry units are 20 strong, mounted 4 to a base. Two or more units of Infantry, Cavalry or Artillery are formed into a Brigade and an Army is comprised of one or more Brigades. The game is designed to be played on a standard 6’ x 4’ wargames table, with a typical game reaching its conclusion in two to three hours. The rulebook covers the background and history of Ozz, army building, movement, melee, ranged combat, magic and morale together with points lists for tournament play, scenarios, maps, campaign and painting guides.

The plan is for Wars of Ozz to be launched via a four week Kickstarter in May 2020. Kickstarter backers will be sent a Playtest / Beta PDF version of the rules so that they can start playing straight away using proxies or miniatures from an initial limited release of 6 packs, released in advance to facilitate playtesting. Kickstarter pledges will be shipped 6 months after Kickstarter completion, at which time ‘Wars of Ozz’ will be made available as a general retail release. The Kickstarter will be run by Sally 4th who are also publishing the rules and distributing the miniature range under licence in the UK & Europe, in partnership with Old Glory who will be shipping to USA and the rest of the world. Further information will be made available through website: www.warsofozz.com which includes links to Wars of Ozz Facebook Group.
