Deraj Studios: Fantastical Sub-Saharan Miniatures Kickstarter

Deraj Studios: My miniatures company, Deraj Studios, is creating a new line of true-scale 32mm scale figures inspired from a fantastical version of the Sub-Sahara, from the world that our in-development skirmish game Portals: Worlds Collide is set in - Spiaca. The eventual purpose of the miniatures is for use in Portals: Worlds Collide - but in the meant time, these miniatures are great for use in games of Frost Grave, Ghost Archipelago, Kings of War, Open Combat, and pen & paper rpgs. The eventual purpose of them is for use in my in-development strategy skirmish game, Portals: Worlds Collide.

There are three main creatures/civilizations being presented in the campaign - The Tryl, The Dameeri, and The Grum. These three civilizations once vied for control over Spiaca - but with a new threat (amongst whom is Baba Yaga) suddenly entering into their world through portals, they have been forced to put aside their ancient conflicts in order to form an alliance against the new invaders.

The Tryl

A civilization facing absolution, the Tryl are a proud race who struggle to uphold the traditions of their ancestors while surviving the threats presented to them from both a crumbling society and unknown invaders who have begun an unyielding hunt for the magical Skavda, committing mass genocide on their less defended territories in the process.

The Dameeri

Fast-rising amidst the chaos of invasion, the Dameeri seek to change their placement in the power structure against the technologically superior Tryl.

The Grum

Feared and hated by the Tryl as much as they are worshipped by the Dameeri who serve and offer tribute to them. The Grum stand as gods amongst the other races, though the loss of one is as tragic for them as a hundred foe would be to their enemies.

Wandering Creatures

A few of the many who traverse the lands of Spiaca untied to any grand alliance or faction other than their own interests and instincts.

In addition to my own sculpting to create these miniatures, I'm lucky enough to work amongst a fantastic group of artists such as Kamil 'Smok' Milianuk (sculptor), Kamil Jadczak (concept illustrator), Zorro (Máté Lavotha, sculptor) and Mary Profitt (miniatures painter) - all important members of the Deraj Studios crew whose works are shown here and on the Kickstarter campaign.

If you'd like to help this line of miniatures become a reality, please check out the campaign and if you want to pick any of the miniatures from it, back us! We'd love to reach funding and be able to create these high-quality resin miniatures for you all. Check the Kickstarter here

Deraj Studios: Jared's Slavic Fantasy Kickstarter‏ Introduction and Inspiration

Just received this introduction by Jared of Deraj Studios about his ongoing Kickstarter to fund a splendid range of Slavic Mythology heroes and creatures.

For as long as I can remember I've always been mystified by Slavic mythology. Whether it was the resonating fear of being taken away by Baba Yaga during my childhood after reading a series of folklore on her, or being mesmerized by the evil Koschei the Deathless, I've always been drawn to folklore from Slavic tradition and culture. As I grew and got into tabletop gaming, I always wanted to make my own games and given my knowledge of Slavic folklore it was a natural inspiration for my first line of miniatures.

The range that I'm now launching is inspired by Slavic folklore, and lots of it. I have a few well known skilled sculptors and some fantastic illustrators working with me on the miniatures, including Patrick Keith and Kamil Jadczak. The miniatures are at 32mm scale. I know it's sometimes hard to tell what size that is exactly with so many ranges using that term for entirely different scales, so I've included a scale comparison showing how my models look in comparison to different ranges from other companies.

The miniatures are being cast in extremely high-quality resin, and plans for pewter casts as well are on the horizon. Most resin miniatures come with a material used in the molds that they're made in which causes paint to apply poorly to them unless cleaned with soapy water, but we wanted our customers and backers to have the best hobby experience possible and so we've cleaned each miniature individually to make sure that they're ready to be assembled and painted right from being opened up.

The miniatures on the kickstarter are not only great for collecting and painting, using as proxies in wargames and characters, npcs etc. in pen & paper rpgs, but they also are featured in the in-development skirmish game, Portals: Worlds Collide by Deraj Studios. The current kickstarter is for one of the six planned factions for the game, Krackovia.

Portals: Worlds Collide is a fast and deadly game of fallen gods and colonization. In it players control gangs of around 3-6 models each, achieving both known and secret objectives in encounters that usually last 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Portals: Worlds Collide is played on a small 2'x2' area, allowing players to make lavish battlefields without taking up too much space in their home and is a dice-optional system, giving players the opportunity to make fundamental choices that fit their particular playstyle throughout each game.

The quick-start rules and video tutorials going over the basics of gameplay are available on the kickstarter page and each backer will receive a pdf download of the complete beta rules, as well as a pdf with a large amount of profile cards and paper stand ups with illustrations of various illustrations of characters in the game. This will provide even backers pledging at the lowest pledge level with everything they need to play the game apart from dice and measuring tape.

Even if you can't back, be sure to spread the word if you like what you see on the kickstarter. The only way that this line of miniatures will become a reality is by members of the tabletop gaming community like you. Thank you all and happy gaming!

Deraj Studios: Portals Worlds Collide Prorgs Previewed

Deraj Studios: Prorgs, although naturally loyal and kind in nature, can turn against the humans that they watch over if misused. These figures are 19mm to the top of their heads, and are sculpted by Smok.
