The Wargamer Charity Drive was inspired by internal discussions about hobbyists’ "piles of shame" — those unpainted or unused models gathering dust — and the idea that they represent an untapped resource, which could be turned into something useful. The charity drive (with the tagline 'Donate Your Pile of Shame’) will collect these underutilised items, and distribute them to locations of the charity Game Therapy UK across the UK, US, Canada and Australia.

Game Therapy UK is an international charity (Reg: 1201860) run by volunteers that provides therapeutic gaming sessions to disadvantaged groups that face severe difficulties in socialising. Projects are run for children with autism, special education needs or chronic diseases, as well as adults facing homelessness or recovery and veterans. Group gaming has been well-documented as an effective form of socialisation therapy, connecting participants in a warm, natural and fun way. While this therapy is typically only available through paid clinics, Game Therapy UK is offering it entirely free of charge.

The organisers invite all tabletop gamers, miniature hobbyists and hobby shops to visit the website and consider participating. Donations can be sent throughout all of February, allowing for a bit of head start on spring cleaning. Participants may also support Game Therapy UK via cash donations, which are accepted worldwide. Funds will be used to help set up additional therapy projects and locations.

J.P. Medved: Fundraiser - Ukrainian SOF NLAW Operator

J.P.Medved: This 3D-printable .STL file represents a Ukrainian special operations soldier (with distinctive trident patch and identifying yellow tape) firing an NLAW, and was designed by Ukrainian sculptor Nikita Klimenko to raise funds for the defense of Ukraine. The decorative base is separate and shows wreckage from a destroyed "Z" Putinist vehicle and a Ukrainian flag flying above it. All donations raised by this 3D print file will go directly to the the National Bank of Ukraine's special fundraising account for Ukraine's armed forces. Brutal Cities: Brutal Cities Releases First Zona Alfa Terrain STL for Ukraine - Fundraiser Update!

Brutal Cities: Ukraine Fundraiser Update - More than $500AUD raised so far. Due to the invasion of Ukraine, the profits from the Zona Alfa - Chernobyl/Pripyat City Sign Terrain kit will be donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. The Red Cross is a non-denominational organisation providing international support. There are currently severe shortages of water and destroyed pipelines that provide for over 1 million people. Proceeds will go to providing shelter and humanitarian aid to those displaced through giving food, water and medical support. Brutal Cities: New Zona Alfa Chernobyl/Pripyat Terrain Release

Brutal Cities: Zona Alfa: Salvage and Survival in the Exclusion Zone. Zona Alfa is a strategic, quick-play skirmish where your crew, be they mercenaries, bandits, or military, must explore and fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic future. Taking cues from the classic Stugatsky’s Roadside Picnic, Garland’s Annihilation, and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, your objective is to secure artifacts hidden inside the Exclusion Zone. The rules are by Patrick Todoroff and published by Osprey Wargames.

Brutal Cities started developing 15mm kits early this year, as Zona Alfa allows play in either 15mm-28mm scale. While the 15mm range is under development, some kits are available for preview via this blog post. These kits are designed with value in mind, and the scale is suitable for many cold war games, including Team Yankee.

The rules are easy to learn, lending more time to assemble a team for skirmish matches. The narrative potential when running campaigns with the Brutal Cities’ terrain will enhance your immersion into the post-apocalyptic environment of the games' Chernobyl setting. The game mechanics use alternate activation. Cover is cumulative, so the more terrain pieces between your Stalker and the NPC bloodsucker, the harder it is to hit. Zona Alfa requires D10 dice, adding to the granularity while still being simple and quick to pick up and play.

Zona Alfa Terrain Design

Inspiration came from the photographs in Chernobyl: A Stalkers Guide, authored by former Zone tour Guide, Darmn Richter. A highlight, which features in the release, is the Chernobyl city welcome sign. Not as sleek and modernist as the famous Pripyat sign you have probably seen before, but still very Soviet and graphic. This release includes the lesser-known Pripyat sign (at least in the tabletop wargaming world) located in a secondary route to the city, graffitied in the Ukrainian flag colours.
