Wargames Atlantic: Plastic Death Fields Einherjar Reviewed!

Today we will take a closer look at the Wargames Atlantic Einherjar! These 28mm hard-plastic multi-part warriors are already the third set of their Death Fields miniature range featuring all sorts of heroic science fiction soldiers. Death Fields: The Greatest Sport is War - For thousands of years, advanced alien civilizations have visited the Earth for one purpose: to steal their bravest warriors. For centuries, the cream of Earth's soldiers have been taken against their will to fight, die, and be reborn in arenas throughout the galaxy.

The Game Guilds provide some of the most watched sport in the known universe with matches broadcast in thousands of systems. A perennial favorite of sports fans everywhere are the humans - a primitive race from the far edge of the galaxy. Over the millennia, the finest warriors of that backwater planet have been brought to the arenas to fight each other and a host of other sentient species and deadly creatures. Even now, thousands of years since abductions began, Recruiters still acquire the best of Human space's warriors for the games.

The humans go on in their tiny light-years bubble of space attacking each others colony worlds, believing themselves the most advanced race in the universe while the rest of the galaxy watches their immortal ancestors fight and die in the Death Fields... The Death Fields will be a constantly expanding range building toward a future game release once we have enough plastic sets and factions.

The Einherjar Space Dwarfs

"Abducted from their longship on the return voyage from a raid on Wessex, these Norsemen’s new owner settled them on a high gravity world and began their training for the Death Fields circuit. After each battle as wounds miraculously healed and even the dead were brought back to life, the warriors thought of themselves as the fabled Einherjar - the ghostly warriors of Valhalla who fight and die each day and are reborn to feast each night. Over the centuries, their ongoing regeneration while living primarily on their high-gravity homeworld has resulted in stunted growth for themselves and their offspring. Their diminished stature in no way effects their prowess on the fields of battle as they win contest after contest against other teams human and otherwise."

This most useful boxed set contains enough hard-plastic parts to create 24 Einherjar warriors with weapons like standard rifles, grenade launchers, plasma and flame weapons, shotguns, and even axes and shields. The boxed set contains eight identical sprues, with each of these sprues containing more than enough parts to assemble three cool and unique models. The miniatures are supplied in a nicely illustrated box with artwork by Diego Gisbert Llorens and pictures of the painted miniatures by Matthew Leahy which is a great painting reference. The miniatures were digitally sculpted by Rob Macfarlane and are tooled and manufactured in China.

The Einherjar boxed sets contains enough parts to assemble 24 heroic warriors armed with a large arsenal of weapons in a convincing number of quality and characterful poses. As mentionned before each sprue contains enough parts to assemble three warriors with plenty of spare parts. Their stunted but slighly stout bodies are all uniformly dressed in modern or science fiction military style clothing with light body armour and some nordic inspired decorations reminiscence of their earthly past.

The most exciting bits of the sprue are of course the weapons and these sprues are packed with loads of cool pieces. First of all we have the standard rifles of which four are included and are supplied to arm the regular soldiers of your units. Then we have the grenade launcher and heavy shotgun of which one each is included for the specialist soldiers and maybe well-armed officers but the coolest weapons must be the flamethrower and plasma gun. Last but certainly not least are some more unusual weapons for a science fiction set such as axes, knives and shields once again a reference to their history and legacy on planet Earth. Next to the weapons all sorts of other cool bits and pieces are included such as holstered pistols, loose axes, a great-looking radio set, battle horn and ammunition pouches.

The set of course also includes plenty of heads, quick count no less than thirteen heads in numerous styles from solid science fiction to more fantasy inspired. These heads come with either military grade style helmets, fabric caps and cool fantasy style face masks and science fiction goggles. There's even a bald head with cyberoptic eye most suitable for a lethal assassin or experienced veteran of countless wars. As these miniatures are inspired by Vikings most of the heads come with thick beards adding even more character to these heroic warriors.

Think we have covered most of the sprue with exception of plenty of arms some of which are designed to be used to support the supplied weapons while other are designed for more specific purposes such as supporting the heavy weapons, pointing, carrying a knife, pointing a battle axe, etc . The last interesting pieces included are the separate fur neck collars for each body adding the possibility to create even more unique characters for your Einherjar army.

Assembling your Einherjar Warriors

These new miniatures are easy to assemble and the quality of the plastic and casting is very good with minimal mouldlines. As you can see in the following pictures, the amount of possible poses is quite good with plenty of cool weapons and other options to create some great-looking characterful miniatures for your tabletop battlefields. I especially like the look of the heavy weapon specialists and the veteran warrior using his knife and battle axe for some stealthy and lethal infiltration behind the enemy battle lines.

For this review I have also kitbashed some of these stout space warriors with weapons and arms from the Wargames Atlantic Dark Age Irish Warriors to create some high fantasy dwarf warriors. Although you need to cut up some bits and pieces you can easily create some convincing fantasy warriors from these two kits. Check the third picture below for these conversions. You can check our Wargames Atlantic Dark Age Irish Warriors review here

The Scale Comparison

I have also included some scale comparison pictures showing the scale of these new Wargames Atlantic miniatures alongside other miniatures from Wargames Atlantic, Games Workshop and Northstar Miniatures. As you can see these new miniatures are some great-looking growth stunted warriors compared with regular normal human sized miniatures as fitting their Death Fields background story.

The Conclusion

This third model kit for the science fiction Death Fields miniature range and shows yet another convincing and unique faction for the ever growing Death Fields miniature range which will eventually become a full game with own rules in the future pitching all these factions against each other in deadly combat. I really like the look of these space "dwarf" miniatures as they are quite unique in their appearance and once more supplied as a top-quality hard-plastic model kit with plenty of options at a more than fair price compared to other popular brands that sell science fiction miniatures. I can easily see these being used for a whole range of cool science fiction games and other settings when mixing the content of this excellent quality kit with other plastic miniature kits by Wargames Atlantic and other tabletop miniatures companies.

The boxed set contains everything you need to assemble a nice force of Einherjar warriors featuring a whole array of deadly futuristic weapons such as flamethrowers, plasma guns, assault rifles and much more. The quality and price of these miniatures is excellent, with one boxed set containing no less than 24 models retailing for £25.00 with further discounts for larger amounts of boxed sets. You can buy these very useful miniatures now directly from Wargames Atlantic or from other distributors and retailers worldwide.
