Wartorn Studios: Dungeon Architect - Build a Dungeon in a Day Kickstarter

Wartorn Studios: A set of 3D printable tools designed to speed up building wargames terrain, using unique tools designed for XPS foam and polymer clays. Check the Kickstarter here

Welcome one and all to Dungeon architect - Dungeon in a day. The aim of this project was to quite literally build a playable 28mm scale dungeon in a day, detailed, textured and painted. Took a while but I can honestly say we got there. Now it’s time to let you all in on the secret too. In this Kickstarter you will find a unique set of tools, all ready to 3D print on a standard fdm printer, not requiring any special modifications, not needing and special plastics, just plain old pla filament.

I’m sure we’ve all spent many an hour drawing brick patterns into dungeon walls, or days and days printing out enough tiles to make a room or two? I know I have and it’s verging on soul destroying. Fancy a set of tools that can be printed out in a few hours and from there enable you to build a playable dungeon in an evening or two? I did too so I sat down at the computer and made them. Using designs simple enough to leave a good detailed impression on XPS foam and holding a second level of detail fine enough to be used on polymer clays and air dry clays.

The key to the system lies in the wall roller system, not a rolling pin designed for clays, a one handed roller designed specifically for XPS, letting you texture a linear meter of wall in under a minute. Imagine doing that with a biro. Fancy a wharf, or wooden walkways? Roll them in seconds on air dry clay, and just trim them to length.

As a 3D printed part these rollers have been modelled to fit to a wallpaper roller as these are strong, super cheap (I pay £2 gbp) and easy to find. I’m aware roller dimensions may vary country to country but I’m on that, As the internal dimension is exact you can just scale them in your slicer to fit. I’ll even do a video on how for anybody that needs it. To compliment the rollers there is a selection of floor tiles designed to imprint onto a foam floor, and again with the second level of high detail for clays. These can be used as a basis for further sculpting, matching a models base to the dungeon you’ve just built, floors for buildings, plazas on a games table. Since printing the first prototypes out I’ve lost count of the things I’ve used them for.

Finally there is stick on door frames and removable doors to make sure your dungeon is no cakewalk. Add to that a little scatter terrain and you’ve got all the detail of a printed dungeon without the weeks of printing, and all the fun of a foam build with out all the soul destroying tedium of scratching in brickwork and floor tiles.
