Wayland Games: The Adeptus Custodes, more commonly known as Custodians are the guardians of the Imperial Palace and the Golden Throne Above this they are the personal bodyguard to the Emperor himself. The genetic enhancement, or Gene-seed, that forms the Custodes is both different from and predates the one developed to create the Space Marines. Each Custodian is a unique work of art, the product of genetic lore collected over many lifetimes, making their physical build and martial prowess vastly superior to that of a standard Space Marine. Due to the vast size of the Imperial Palace, the Custodes always act as a defensive army. As of M41 the Custodes themselves never leave Terra, and only rarely leave the Palace. It is the Adeptus Custodes that decide not only who may enter the throne room of the Emperor but when they may enter.
The Sisters of Silence, also known as the Silent Sisterhood, were the anti-psychic militant arm of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica during the Great Crusade, and were internally referred to as the organization's Departmento Investigates. Its ranks consisted entirely of Blanks, an exceedingly rare type of human mutant that possesses no presence in the Warp which can disrupt psychic phenomena in their vicinity and renders them immune to psychic powers. The Sisters of Silence, while nominally under the control of the Astra Telepathica, quickly became the Emperor personal force. Along with the Custodes the Sisters of Silence are the only military force of the Imperium permitted to walk freely within the inner Imperial Palace.
