Orcs in the Webbe: Today marks the first day of Orcs in the Webbe's anniversarycelebrations. It was ten years ago, almost to the day, that I was putting the finishing touches on my first ever website, a rather badly designed Google Pages creation called Orcs in the Webbe. It was unveiled on the Flintloque eGroup (which is still in existence as a Yahoo Group albeit renamed Historcy - The Historical Orc) in message #1322. The original message read:
Hi All, I have wanted to do an online site for Flintloque since it first came out, its been many years since then but I eventually did it. Comments are appreciated, if there is anything there people would like me to change/credit/remove/upload let me know. I'm not trying to claim credit for any of it, I just wanted a single repository where Flintloque gamers can go to get all of the stuff I remember from whay back. One glance at it will tell you I'm not a web designer by any means so please don't be too harsh if there are errors on the technical side. L8r, C.
I think I've definitely acheived what I set out to over the last decade and even ran Barking Irons, Alternative Armies' official content portal, for a while before it passed into the West as a result
of my work on my little site. OITW itself has gone through five or six regenerations since I started it, ranging from cosmetic changes to complete site rewrites (and more cutting and pasting than I care to think about) as I jumped between content management systems. With every regeneration things fell through the cracks and are not currently online. Similiary, when Barking Irons was turned off I only had a complete XML content dump as the older CMS was not compatible with anything at the time so a few articles from that didn't pass over onto OITW. My anniversary celebrations are therefore somewhat unusual, it's not a competition, it's not a new series of anything, it is a concentrated effort to reinstate the lost articles so everyone can enjoy them once again.
First up, following on from yesterday's Halloween adventure, is 'Just Get The Hell Out of Here!', the third and final chapter of Tony Harwood's 2011 Halloween adventure featuring the Elven hero Margahrah, it disappeared when BIO did for some reason not being carried over onto OITW along with chapters one and two.
Come back every day this week as I reinstate some of the content missing from the original 2007 Advent Calendar. I'm actually on my holibobs in Lanzarote but I've pre loaded the site and something
'should' appear every morning about 8am UK time.
