Proxie Models has just shared this unbelievable news about Defiance Games: As of today, I am announcing that I will never have any dealings with Defiance Games in any way shape or form. Simply put, the reputation they have on the internet is well deserved. And the "new" management team can go straight to hell. 

The new management team refuses to pay for products ordered under the old management team. I have shipped 3 large orders to them, costing me hundreds in shipping alone, and not gotten one single penny. The first few months were filled with excuses, but now I have been told to go pound sand. Be very wary of these folks. I am learning all about running a business and this is a very important lesson.

Here's the same version but posted on TMP with more information: I would like to warn people that I have had an extremely unpleasant dealing with the new management. Be very careful about these guys. I am owed a lot of money and I have been informed that the new management will not pay debts owed by Tony. I have a very strong reason to believe the management shift was a shell game to make the kick starter look better. Can't prove it, but have a very strong feeling about it.

This company has been the worst dealings I have had in my limited time as a part time, one man plastic company. I will never work with them again.They had planned for me to make the plastic mech in the kick starter with out ever even talking to me about it. I found out I was the supplier after reading the kick starter and asking who was making it. I told them I would not be making anything for a company that owed me thousands of dollars and was making no attempt to pay. After I was paid for previous product I would be willing to look at the files and see what could be done. Well, they got a pile of money from kick starter and found someone else to make the mech. And they told me weeks ago they would be returning product, but they have not. This is not ok with me, but I have no choice. I would not have made the items if they had not ordered them. Still they have the items in their store, I have no money, and they are setting on almost $50,000 in kick starter money.I am very sorry if this seems to be a bad business move to spread bad news about another company, but I am angry beyond the capacity for rational thought. Be very careful dealing with them.

Defiance Games: Aleutian Swamp Worms

Hi I just found these new miniatures from Defiance Games, they look rather unusual but I'm not so impressed by this release as I was when I saw the marines as they look like mediocre sculpts that can easily be modelled by yourself or you can use the excellent Reaper Bones Purple Worms as proxies. But judge for yourself and please take a look.

"The American colony world Aleutia is known primarily as the home of the Vralk, the semi-aquatic intelligent natives currently in rebellion against the United Americas, Aleutia features vast oceans, arid highlands, and dense swamp jungles that are home to the famous Swamp Worms of Aleutia. These massive invertebrates can grow up to 5 meters or more in length and can swallow a human, Bug, or Vralk whole. The Worms live in small family groups in underground burrows, laying in wait for unwary passerbys before exploding out of the earth. The Aleutian Swamp Worms are our first Edge Force set for the Alien War universe. This means that this box set stands on it's own unlike the Core Forces which are made up of multiple box sets. Hi, here are the latests previews of Defiance Games! I recently received a newsletter containing these pcitures of the Germans and Hardsuits which are part of the expanding science fiction range. As you can see these pictures these miniatures are only test models or computer renders but they look great especially the massive hardsuits, mean machines!

Defiance Games: A review of the UAMC marines!

Hi, it's time for another review! This time I will take a look at the plastic United Americas Marine Corps made by the American manufacturer Defiance Games lead by Tony Reidy. Some may have heard that the release date of these miniatures was postphoned several times and that most of that was the result of an issue about the name use of the box which was originally United States Marine Corps. Therefor all the boxes needed to be reprinted and repacked. But after all that waiting here's a review of probably the most generic plastic modular futuristic soldiers you can currently find on the market. Let's take a look ...

The box

The box art is really stunning, when I opened the package I was sure the box art would be similar to the recent Wargames Factory artwork (if you know their box art you will know!) but it wasn't. The box was decorated with the image of a fierce marine equipped with his trusty assault rifle and dressed in a great looking body armor. I must credit the illustrator Diego Gisbert Llorens and the package designer Saffron Media for their excellent work!

The back of the box is decorated with some fluff about the United Americas Marine Corps and their campaigns. In addition to that there are also some examples of the poses you can make with the content and a list with the different parts which you can find on the sprues. I think this a great idea to list up all the different parts the box contains so any unaware wargamer can see if he can use the box for the miniatures or just for some old school kitbashing.

The sprues

The box contains sufficient parts to assemble 24 marines equipped with a variety of light weaponry and a heavy machinegun! The set also includes suffient baseswhich are almost identical to those made by Games Workshop to base the miniatures. Some of these bases come attached to the sprues while others are nicely packaged in a small plastic zip bag. Ok, up to the sprues! The box contains 12 identical sprues, each of these sprues accomodates two marines and sufficient bits for the bits box. Here you can see a picture of the sprue, each of these sprues contains three different pair of legs but only two bodies? I prefered another body but well there's always room for improvement as it's their first plastic boxed kit they have released.

As requested I also made close ups of the different parts in the box. First of all we have the bodies and a bagpack for the long and brutal campaigns in Aleutia and during the Jabaoting uprise. The bodies are dressed in body armour similar to the armor worn in the Starship Trooper films. Second of all we have the heads each of the sprues contains 6 heads of which some have helmets and goggles while other have caps or a simply bare headed. I love this amount of heads but would have prefered at least two heads with an open helmets as the one on the left so you can equip all your soldiers with this type.

Next we have an array of weaponry starting with two assault rifles which are probably the core weapon of the United Americas Marine Corps. Another weapon which is included on the sprue is a modern version of a shotgun and a massive heavy machinegun. I especially love the look of this heavy machinegun as it looks both mobile and deadly (I just see I haven't took a picture of it in close up but you can see it on the assembled models or the entire sprue picture).

There's also another assault rifle included which is probably the favorite weapon of the officers and engineers. I'm not sure if it's a machine gun and a grenade launcher or one of the two but it looks badass!

Assembled

As soon as I had the time I assembled some of these great miniatures. The hard plastic parts were easy to remove from the sprues and only needed some basic flash removal on the arms and bodies. I first started with attached the legs on the base so I had a good base to hold when assembling the rest of the miniatures. after that I fitted and attached the chosen weapons and the head. Be careful always dry fit your parts before you glue them in place. this way can save you lots of problems. Take a look, personally I think they look great and look like they have just walked of the set of Starship Troopers!

Size comparison

As every wargamer want to know are they compatible with my existing army or prefered miniature manufacturer? Well for that reason I have included a scle comparison with some other science fiction manufacturers such as Games Workshop, Kallistra and Grenadier miniatures. all the miniatures seem to fit and none of them looks odd in the selection. There's only one difference and that's the chunkiness of the other models probably because most of the others are metal except for the Space Marine but those are always chunky. From the left to the right you have: A Games Workshop Catachan, a Games Workshop Space Marine, A Kallistra ganger, the Defiance Games marine and a Grenadier models agent.

Profile card

The boxed set also includes a profile card for the United Americas Marine Corps which you can use with the upcoming Alien War ruleset. However most of these miniatures will be used probably with another ruleset, I think the profile card really adds more interesting content to the already full box!

Conclusion

I really love this set as it's one of the most generic plastic multipart futuristic trooper kits I have seen on the market. The box retails for $30 and contains enough parts to make 24 marines ready to do a tour of duty across the galaxy and beyond! The only minor issue I have besides the lack of another body is that some of the detail is not so clearly defined. But that's a minor issue as you have a bunch of tough guys willing to kill some nasty bugs on a desolate planet. Next plastic releases are bugs scheduled on June 18th and the Germans scheduled around the end of June! Semper Fi!

Matakishi's Tea House: Review of the Defiance Games Marines!

Hi, I've just found a neat and detailled review of the Defiance Games Marines made by Matakishi from the excellent Matakishi's Tea House wargame website! Make sure you also visit all his projects logs as they are filled with great terrain pieces and nicely painted miniatures. Matakishi also provides detailled painting and terrain building guides for all sorts of settings! You could easily spend two hours on his marvellous website.

Finally some sprue pictures of Defiance Games

Hi, I've finally found some sprue pictures of the USMC Marines on the internet! Defiance Games has failed to deliver these miniatures in time and has postphoned the release of them for several months. Everybody which has pre order these miniatures will hopefully receive these miniatures in the near future as these sample sprues have already been send to american based reviewers.

If we take a look at the sprues, I must say they are filled to the brim with all sorts of weaponry and heads. It seems that there is no wasted space on the sprues which is nice as I really hate all the excessive plastic the guys at Wargames Factory use for their "mini" sprues. The added bases are also a nice touch as you can never have enough of them.

I also found a picture of some miniatures assembled with blue tac, they don't look to shabby but the details aren't quite defined as I had liked. To make clear I have not received these miniatures so I can really comment on the quality. The look of these miniatures is nice as they could be used for tons of scifi settings do I somebody say starship troopers?

Edit: It seems that the assembled miniatures are made out of the test sprues and that the final product will be more detailled.

Wargame news from Perry Miniatures, Foundry, ...

Hi, here's another round of exciting wargame news! Way too many so this will be a very long post, grap some popcorn and check these awesome products! First of all we have the preview of the Defiance Games bugs. These fearsome critters will be the all-round opponent of the different humanoid factions of the "Alien War" universe. The miniatures will be made out of hard plastic and will come in multiple parts so you can make multiple poses. These swarms of bugs will be the ideal proxy for some "Starship Troopers" warrior aliens or some sort or lesser species. I can easily find dozens of different settings for these beasts, so were are you waiting for?

Secondly we have some new releases in the "Condottiere" range from Foundry Miniatures! This new Condottiere collection features the Spanish; tough and experienced professionals, both as mercenaries and fighting for the Spanish crown. They would also make great additions to your Conquistador forces! This collection includes; Spanish Pikemen and Crossbowmen, Stradiots, Ginetes, plus a Demi Cannon and Artillery Crew!

Next their are the greens of the Mantic Games, Corporation faction! But first of all some more information about the massive Corporation faction. "The galaxy is burning. The malevolent Corporation is ever expanding its sphere of influence, annexing more and more star systems. Their strategy is to make contact with alien civilizations, dazzle them with a few gifts of techno-bauble and then offer membership ‘as equal partners’ in the Great Galactic Co-prosperity Sphere. In the space of a few years, of course, the governments of those worlds will be changed by bribery, corruption, political intrigue, blackmail, threats and assassination, into puppet-states. They will devote all of their planets’ resources to enriching the Corporation and the few local bureaucrats that ‘run the business’ for it, while their populations plummet into a state of poverty and servitude.." Here's an awesome green sculpted by the talented Paul Muller and the magnificent artwork. I really love these grim futuristic foot soldiers pressed into service for the Empire, euh ... Corporation! It's a pitty that they will be released in plastic resin as the waiting queue at Renedra was too long.

Other new releases can be found on the massive online store, Northstar Figures distributor of dozens if not hundreds of manufacturers! The first new releases are from Trent Miniatures, which manufacturers an amazing range of rather unusual subjects such as the Hawain Rebellion, Irish insurgents for the 1796-1800 French Revolutionary Wars and many others. The new releases exist out of seven packs of Irish Militiamen for the French Revolutionary Wars which are beautifully sculpted, check the picture!

Another release that can be found on the Northstar Figures website is made by North Star Miniatures themselves as they own an own range of miniatures! You can never have enought Tarzan's and Jane's! Not mentioning the chimp and little savage! These miniatures can be bought as a pack here!

Another bunch of new goodies is avaible for preorder at Wargames Factory! The first set is the 16th Century Ashigaru Warriors Set is made for model builders and war gamers interested in warfare during the Warring States Period of Japanese History. There are 25-multipart hard plastic miniatures in this set which can be assembled into Ashigaru with bows and arquebus. Up to 20 arquebus soldiers and 5 bowman or 20 bowman and 5 arquebus soldier. Models require painting and assembly to be completed.

The second set is the 16th Century Ashigaru Yari Spearmen set is made for model builders and war gamers interested in warfare during the Warring States Period of Japanese History. There are 25-multipart miniatures in this set which can be assembled into Ashigaru with Spears. There are also provisions for Standard Bearers, Musicians (both the conch shell horn and signal drum with drummer) and (non-Samurai) unit leaders. Models require painting and assembly to be completed.

But the coolest releases must be the new carts from Perry Miniatures! These carts and their handlers are intended to be used for the War of the Roses range but can be used for more settings if you change the handlers and some of the carriage! As a bonus you can buy the oxes and horses seperate, so you can easily use them for other purposes or enlarge the amount of draft animals! Sounds good!

I especially love the oxe wagon filled with baggage! So I will probably end up buying some of the oxes. The other set is a horse drawn covered wagon.

The last release is from Warlord Games ,their magnificent Light Brigade lancers! What could be finer than the 17th Lancers making their ill-fated charge into the Russian guns at Balaclava? Nothing – that’s what! They couldn’t do the Light Brigade (yes, the Hussars and Dragoons are already being sculpted…) without casualty models could they? So they are also avaible for purchase.

Hi, here's some exciting wargame news I've received recently from Defiance Games founded by Tony Reidy! This relativly new company is specialised in 28mm hard plastic science fiction miniatures which will be released under their range called "Alien War". Their first release are the feared USMC marines! Probably one of the toughest factions of the universe. These marines will receive support from hardsuits, female elite soldiers and heavy weaponry in the near future! So don't hesitate to order some of these magnificent warriors as these can be used in several future settings such as Battlestar Galactica and even Starship Troopers! More factions will follow soon including panzergrenadiers and bugs! Lots of those buggers!
