Pwork: Dust Town: New Dust Town - Fantasy Gaming Mat

Pwork: Dust Town: Fantasy Gaming Mat from Pwork Wargames! Play your battles among the remains of a small town, now covered with a layer of dust, debris and weeds, on a bare and impervious landscape, where the environmental conditions of iciness can be more dangerous than any enemyon a desolate landscape, where the bare earth alternates with what remains of an urban pavement!

Hollandspiele: Agricola, Master of Britain Solitaire Boardgame

Hollandspiele: It is the year of Vespasian and Titus - the sixth such ordinary consulship that Titus shared with his Imperial father. The civil war of a decade ago is but a memory, and the Flavians have restored peace and order to all corners of the empire, save one. The people of Brittania remain fiercely resistant to the will of their Roman masters, and the emperor has charged you with the seemingly impossible task of bringing them to heel. Available here online

Agricola, Master of Britain is a solitaire game of governance and conquest. To master the delicate political situation, you will need the right blend of military force, administration, bribery, and diplomacy. Every action you take matters, changing how the native populace feels about you and your rule. But you'll never know exactly who's with you or against you, because the game tracks this "under the hood", or, more precisely, "in the cup".

Three chit-pull cups (Friendly, Unfriendly, and Hostile) represent the allegiances of the units contained within those cups. After each action you take, one or more of these units are blindly moved from one cup to another. You'll have a general idea of "I'm really cheesing them off" or "I should have a lot of friendlies available for recruitment", but until you pull a chit, you won't know who your friends really are, or where the next rebellion will spring up. This isn't totally random: certain tribes naturally skew more in one direction or the other, and taking actions to stabilize a region after it's been pacified will diminish the chances of revolt there.

Building the right armies, and taking the right actions at the right time is key to your success. But the Flavians - and particularly the hated Domitian - expect greater and greater results with each campaign season. You'll need to meet and exceed them if you want to duplicate Agricola's achievement.

Pen and Sword launched the discounted pre-order for the Wargames Terrain and Buildings - The Napoleonic Wars Book written by Tony Harwood known from the Dampf's Modelling Page and his expert modelling work for Grand Manner.

Building your own can be a cost-effective and very rewarding alternative, another hobby in itself, but it can be hard to know where to start. Wargames Terrain and Buildings is a series of books aimed at giving wargamers the skills, techniques and guidance they need to create their own stunning and practical model buildings.

In this volume, master modeller Tony Hardwood shares his years of experience and presents the reader with a wide range of projects for the Napoleonic era. With the aid of step-by-step photographs, he guides the reader through building and finishing each of these models, which are organized in three sections of increasing complexity and encompass a range of scales and different materials. Nine projects are included but the techniques and skills demonstrated along the way, along with valuable advice on tools, construction materials and paints, can be adapted and applied to a much wider range of structures to grace your battlefields.

Pendraken Miniatures: New English Countryside and African Savanna Animals Released

Pendraken Miniatures: We've released a lot already this year, but the new goodies keep coming as we expand our Animals range to cover the English countryside and the African savanna! There's badgers, foxes and deer, zebras, lions and camels, there's even some crocodiles and giraffes! We've also got some extremely useful horse packs, each containing 3 poses, with bare, saddled and baggage options available. These should suit a whole host of different games and periods so certainly worth a look. Check them all on the website.

Nordic Weasel Games: Renegade Scout - Bleeding Edge Retro Gaming

Nordic Weasel Games: Welcome to Renegade Scout. What is Renegade Scout? Other than 179 pages jammed full of gaming goodness? Renegade Scout is very old: It is a “retro-clone” of the venerable Rogue Trader game rules many of us grew up on, offering mechanics that are familiar and well-loved to fight fantastical battles between brave heroes, terrible monsters and strange space aliens. You can even grab your original figures right off the shelf and battle it out, using the conversion rules presented in the back.

Renegade Scout is very new: This isn’t a simple copy with a new lick of paint. Everything has been updated and rewritten to play in a way that feels modern and elegant, removing the clumsy and awkward to keep the game moving and exciting. Renegade Scout is open to playing the game your way. You can grab almost any figures you already own. We’ve included profiles for 15 alien species, several human troop types and monsters.

You can customize your own heroes and roll up random equipment and skills. If you like how they do, you can level them up across multiple games, at least as long as you can keep them alive. If you like to play campaigns, we include tools for two different approaches. If you like vehicles or psychic powers, we got those. An army builder? Off map artillery? Calling in evac choppers? A beefy section on how to solve everything from breaching doors to building things mid-battle? We have all those.

Random tables? Strange terrain types? Space ghosts? Yes, yes and yes. What if you have never written a scenario before? What if you want to be the GM? What if you don’t know how to paint a miniature? What if you want to play solo? Included are advice sections for all of these situations and more.

Whether you are a hardcore gaming veteran, someone just dipping your toes into the miniatures hobby or a role player looking for some tactical action, Renegade Scout offers everything you need to get started and keep going. The rules are aimed at roughly a platoon or so per side (2-4 units each) but options are included for both much bigger battles and "Skirmish Mode" game play where a handful of individual figures battle for survival.

Star Hat Miniatures: Dungeons of Doom: Law Vs Chaos Kickstarter - Heavy Terrain: The Double Doors of Doom!

Star Hat Miniatures: Here is a heavy piece of (resin) terrain for your next dungeon crawl. There are times in a sculptor’s life when they do something completely different. I blame Murray. Functions as a temple entrance (Dagon or Cthulhu?), or the throne room of a benthic king, or the janitor’s closet at Star Hat University, or as an inter-planetary gate. Travis loves the versatility. Pen and Sword: Discounted Painting Wargaming Figures: WWII in the Desert Book Pre-Order Launched

Pen and Sword launched the discounted pre-order for another interesting wargame book, Painting Wargaming Figures: WWII in the Desert! Grab this new miniature painting book now here

Andy Singleton has been modelling and painting most of his life and has been a professional commission figure painter for some years now. Here he shares his experience and tips of the trade with those collecting figures for the North African campaigns in WWII. The four main sections of the book cover British, Italian, German and US troops, as well as tips on assembly and painting camouflage uniforms.

Each section is divided into three levels of complexity, ‘conscript’, ‘regular’ and ‘elite’, allowing the reader to build up an array of techniques as they gain confidence and experience.  The emphasis is on achievable results and practical advice that is applicable to painting units or whole armies for wargaming purposes in a reasonable time frame, not on spectacular individual display pieces.

Most of the figures featured in the numerous illustrations are sized either 28mm or 20mm but the techniques described are easily adaptable to smaller sizes and both plastic and metal figures are covered. Andy’s clear, step-by-step guidance takes the reader through the process from the initial preparation and assembly of the figure, to finishing and basing.

Pen and Sword: Discounted Battlefields in Miniature - Making Realistic and Effective Terrain for Wargames Book

Pen and Sword: Like a good general, a good wargamer should have an eye for the ground. Just as the nature of the battlefield plays a central role in real warfare, so miniature wargames are greatly enhanced by realistic terrain. Besides, when you've spent hundreds of hours collecting and painting your miniature armies, they surely deserve ground worth fighting for.

Master terrain modeller Paul Davies takes the reader through the process of creating a visually appealing yet practical terrain system. First the techniques of making the basic landscape are explained, then a series of projects show how this can be adapted to suit different periods or geographic locations (eg European farmland or Sudanese desert). There are then detailed chapters on adding vegetation, buildings, roadways, trench systems etc. The clear, step-by-step instructions are clearly illustrated by numerous specially-taken photographs of the work in progress and Paul's inspirational finished pieces. Available at Pen and Sword Books here

Andrew Rolph: Barbarossa - Kicking in the Door... Germany Invades The Soviet Union Wargames Campaign

Andrew Rolph: “Barbarossa – Kicking in the Door…” is a wargames campaign covering the German invasion of the Soviet Union between June and September 1941. It is designed for games in which a stand represents a platoon, such as ‘Blitzkrieg Commander’, ‘Command Decision: TOB’, ‘A Fistful of Tows’, ‘Rapid Fire’ and others, including those which wargamers may have written themselves.

The system generates 150+ hours of gaming spread over 50+ individual battles which are fought over fifteen weekly campaign turns. Bookkeeping is kept to a minimum as players take command of four of the German panzer divisions spearheading the invasion or the Soviet tank and infantry forces opposing them. Straightforward German attacks will be interspersed with Soviet counterattacks, storming city outskirts, holding bridgeheads or trying to break through the fortifications of the Stalin Line. Each type of battle has its own terrain specifications, victory conditions, set up restrictions and likely opposition. Individual battles are reinforced regimental/brigade sized, with some battalions of each division selected to fight whilst others are rested.

In addition to managing the individual battles, however, the German player also needs to manage the campaign. Ever increasing Soviet resistance needs to be curtailed by encircling their forces. Such encirclements reduce the availability of ‘mobilisation points’ which the Soviet players use as currency to ‘buy’ greater or better equipped forces and fortifications with which the slow the German advance. A rapid, deep advance, however, will exact a heavy toll in attrition. Supply will also become a problem for the German players, limiting the numbers they can commit to battle and their artillery/air support.

The book also includes

a brief history of the campaign
background information (such as time and groundscale) useful in adapting the system to different sets of rules and some suggestions for additional optional rules
a system for generating table layouts for individual battles
a comprehensive set of Appendices covering
the Tables of Organisation and Equipment to both platoon and company level for all divisions and regiments involved
42 colour terrain squares to assist in creating the terrain for individual battles
a worked example of the terrain generation system
a Campaign Quick Reference Sheet
an example Campaign Turn
a complete set of very quick play rules
a full colour A4 Campaign Map
“Barbarossa – Kicking in the Door…” is an ideal campaign for a club (with eight of more players for twelve or more three hour sessions) or one to be organised remotely, by e-mail, with shorter options available for fewer players or those with less time available.

For those who have purchased the author’s previous book of eastern front scenarios (Grey Steel, Red Storm – available on Wargame Vault) please note that around seven pages of history and background from that book are reproduced largely unchanged in Part One of this volume.

Breaking! Fireforge Games: Fantasy Forgotten World Plastic Miniatures and Wargame Rules Kickstarter

Fireforge Games is will be launching their Fantasy Forgotten World Kickstarter campaign to fund no less than six different plastic boxed sets for their Fantasy Forgotten World setting, miniatures and rules in September!

The campaign will allow the production of six different plastic boxed sets for their newly announced Forgotten World fantasy range. The Kickstarter will contain two different factions, the stout Northmen and the savage Living Dead faction. The actual goal for the Kickstarter will be the creation of a fantasy starterset which will contain the above mentionned miniatures along with fantasy rules.

About Fireforge Games

Fireforge Games is an Italian company expert on the creation and distribution of multi-part figures, in Hard Plastic (HIP – High Impact Polistirene) and resin to assemble and paint. The production of our kits will be made in EU, completely under our quality control. Here in Fireforge we are all passionate and long-time wargamers and hobbyists, and this passion is the main ingredient behind our work. Our target is to give you (and ourselves of course), fun and entertainment with our figures and games.

The Kickstarter

Fireforge Games has not enough resources to release togheter all the new fantasy kits, so we will ask for the help of all hobbysts to bring on the wargame and roleplay market these new figures. The campaign will be launched probably during September and we would like to show the preview of the kickstarter page during august. The release of the models if the project will be a success, should be for april-may 2019. If the campaign will be a success, Fireforge Games has plans to release a lot more new ranges for the fantasy line. You can now check the Kickstarter preview page here for details such as the sprue lay-outs and the latest updates and corrections.

The Rules

Together with the new figures, Fireforge Games is working on a ruleset to play with. The ruleset will allow you to play skirmish games or bigger regimented battles. We are in alpha working for now and the beta should be available for the launch of the campaign. We will reveal something about the rules in the future before the starting of the campaign and we will ask to people to join the beta testing to obtain a fun, strategic set of rules.

The Miniature Material

Plastic models will be in hard plastic (or HIPS, that it is NOT pvc plastic), is the exactly same plastic used by companies like Games Workshop, Perry Miniatures and other companies. It is the best that someone can offer for your models. Our company from birth, has always offered the best in materials. The plastic used for our kits will be made in EU, under our quality control. We avoided the production in China because we were not satisfied by the quality of the Hard Plastic offered (for example plastic HIPS lances made in china break too easily).

The Stout Northmen

The first of the two factions are the tough-looking Northmen warriors hailing from the Northern Kingdom, cladded in warm body armour suitably dressed for cold climate warfare. These miniatures look surprisingly like the Game of Thrones Stark faction although they are just generic fantasy looking soldiers equipped for cold weather climate. The Northmen faction will consist out of three boxed sets which are the following:

Boxed Set 1 - Northern Warriors: the city defense of the Northern Kingdom, the backbone of any northern army. The box will allow you to assemble up to 12 models.
