The great year that brought us loads of shiny new miniatures, entire game systems, rules and much more. During the new year I'm already looking forward in posting the latest wargame news, great promotions, interesting reviews and useful tutorials for your interest.

OnePageRules: New Army Men Combat Rules Released

OnePageRules: One Page Rules has their latest free rules set posted up on their website. This time it’s Army Men Combat. Like their other games, it’s not really meant for any particular set of miniatures, so feel free to use whatever you want. (So despite having Army Men in the name, you don’t have to use army men if you don’t want to) Besides, the rules are free and just one page, so why not check ‘em out?

Army Men Combat is the second in a series of system-agnostic games that we have been releasing (the first being Hammer Wars), which are basically games designed to be played with any miniatures you have, regardless of manufacturer. Today’s game is a throwback to 1st edition 1p40k and its mechanics. The game is fast and fun, and as always fits on a single page. Whilst when this idea first popped in my head i thought of it as a game played with green army men, this system works well with almost any miniatures, from ww2 to modern to sci-fi and more! The whole team at OPR wishes you happy holidays, and we’ll be back early next year with some exciting new releases!

DGS Games: Freeblades Freeband Painting Contest Announced

DGS Games: Participants post up to three photos of a single, painted 150 gold Freeblades Freeband. The Freeband must be legal according to the Assembling Freebands rules from page 96 of the core rulebook.Photos may be posted from December 15 2014 to March 1, 2015. 

They are to be posted to the DGS Games Facebook Page as a single post containing 1-3 photos and noting that these photos represent that person’s entry into the contest. The post needs to include a statement by the participant that the Freeband is their work. Check the rules and prizes here.

MazeScale: Boardgame Maze Quest - Eternal Stone Verkami Crowdfunding Campaign

Mazescale: We present our board game Maze Quest - Eternal Stone, a new game that continues the tradition of the best dungeon crawler and live epic adventures set in a magical and labyrinthine world. Osprey Publishing: New British Light Tanks 1927–45 Vanguard Released

Osprey Publishing: This is the definitive study of British light tanks of the Second World War. The author draws upon a vast and comprehensive body of archival information and research to explore their technical characteristics and combat performance. The title focuses largely on the very widely used Mark VI, but also covers all the variants that preceded it.

The type was truly ubiquitous, equipping the British Army in France, the Western Desert regions, Norway, Sumatra, Persia and India. This book chronicles various experiments and improvisations carried out on the design of these tanks. It ends with coverage of the final model, the Mark VIC, and details of the experimental Lloyd airborne light tank of 1942, which has a number of features in common with the better-known Vickers-Armstrongs designs.

Northstar Miniatures: Free Exclusive Steampunk Miniature with Steampunk Soldiers Book

Northstar Miniatures: The free VSF British Infantryman is still available with every copy of Steampunk Soldiers. Between 1887 and 1895, the British art student Miles Vandercroft travelled around the world, sketching and painting the soldiers of the countries through which he passed. In this age of dramatic technological advancement, Vandercroft was fascinated by how the rise of steam technology at the start of the American Civil War had transformed warfare and the role of the fighting man. 

This volume collects all of Vandercroft’s surviving paintings, along with his associated commentary on the specific military units he encountered. It is a unique pictorial guide to the last great era of bright and colourful uniforms, as well as an important historical study of the variety of steam-powered weaponry and equipment that abounded in the days before the Great War of the Worlds. 

The free model of a British Infantryman is 28mm sized, made of metal and supplied unpainted. The photo shows a painted example, modeled onto a scenic base. The model is based on one of the illustrations from the book.
