VSF-project the start

Here are some pictures of one of my most recent project. I also added some fluff because I needed some sort of guiding line. Some of these pictures will compete in the lead adventure forum-competition but enough let the pictures come,...

The pterodactyls, one of the most interesting species to be found in Mbuij Mayi(part of Central Congo I use for pulp-games). These dinosaurs are used by many native tribes for warfare and other duties. Found in the high mountains surrounding Mbuij Mayi, they are caught and trained to become loyal and especially fierce warmachines!

These units were made with pieces from the wargamesfactory zulu-sprue, the pterodactyls were cheap dinosaurs I found on the attic.

First of all the legendary native pterodactyl riders know for their courage and loyalty. These warriors are the elite guard of the native king of Mbuij Mayi. These riders are excellent soldiers trained in close combat and are know for their precision with the throwingspear.

But because this is the elite force of the king not everybody may serve within this unit. there are many restrictions and rules to join the aircorps of Mbuij Mayi.

- You must be over the age of 17 years.
- You must be an excellent warrior who has defeated at least 3 enemies.
- Your family must have a high social status ( several exceptions are allowed).
- When you join the corps you may not be married or have children.
- When you sign you must sign for 10 years.
- Your family must be a family that has already been in the tribe for 4 generations.
- ...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some pictures of my war gorrilas, these figures are cheap plastic animals I found when I was decluthering the attic to make place for my new gameroom!

These apes will be used to face my British expedition force who wants to explore, conquer and colonise Mbuij Mayi.

The apes themselves will be used by the natives as some kind of trolls with immense power and a huge capacity off taking bullets!

This kind of ape can be found in the dense and foggy jungles of Mbuij Mayi, more especially near the Black Mountains were they chased away the Suri-inhabitants.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here you can see one of my British vehicles, this vehicle was built with pieces of plastic card, cartonboard, balloonsticks and the tracks were from a small cheap tank.

I hope this tank armed with a small canon will help the British to survive the fierce native attacks they will encounter. The tank will be manned by one driver who is also the gunner!

This tracked vehicle is made to endure the most harh conditions and can be used on all fronts.
From deserts and plains to muddy forests and native capitals!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and as you already know stay tuned for more news and pictures!

greets,

Basing madness!

Recently I asked my father to saw some bases for my mini's and kindly as he is he did the job. He almost sawed 387 bases!

2.5 x 2.5 cm = 172 bases (only asked 100)
3.5 x 3.5 cm = 31 bases (only asked 12)
3.5 x 6 cm = 32 bases (only asked 15)
3.5 x 4 cm = 135 bases (only asked 75)
7 x 7 cm = 17 bases (only asked 10)

All these bases were made of hardboard app. 0.3 mm thick.

Most of the bases wil be used for 28mm figure basing:

2.5 x 2.5 cm = basing napoleonic french (ordinary line infantry)
3.5 x 3.5 cm = basing napoleonic french (skirmishers of voltigeurs)
3.5 x 6 cm = basing napoleonic french (cavalry, not yet purchased)
7 x 7 cm = basing monsters and vehicles for VSF and other genres.

And the 15-20mm figure bases:

3.5 x 4 cm = basing 1/72 infantry

I hope you enjoyed the article,

VSF-project

I recently discovered the world of VSF, for the beginners like me: Victorian science fiction. I was appealled to the genre when I discovered the subforum 'VSF' on the lead adventure forum, all the nice figures and most of all strange steam driven machines!

So I decided to change all my recent planned dark-africa stuff to be VSF'ed. I will try to build several vehicles; such as hot-airballoons, huge flying warships "aeronefs" (correct me if I'm wrong), tanks and other machinery. I also will build some native counterparts such as; trained wargorilla's, pterodactyl riders, ... to face the Western VSF force!

So what else can I say? stay tuned and I hope to post photo's soon!

Gametable terrain set-up

Here are some pic's of a recent terrain set-up, I always try to make my terrain so neutral as possible so I can use it in different era's. This set-up can be used from fantasy to medieval times and from interwar periods to worldwar 2. I hope you like the pics and the terrain!

Photo of the fortified mansion and village.

Another shot of the table here you can see my homemade roads.

Close up of the village (really love these 3 buildings!)

Close up of the crossroad ideal for ambushes! (Ira-stuff, partisan actions, etc)

I hope you enjoyed this small post,

How to: Jungle Undergrowth Terrain

Here's another jungle tutorial, unlike my other jungle tutorials I will also use some natural materials mixed alongside the commonly used plastic aquarium plants. Mixing these both materials creates a more dense and natural feel to the otherwise rather shiny look of the bright plastic plants and also adds more detail. For the people who already read my other jungle tutorials on how to make jungle trees and easy bamboo, some techniques will the same as they are useful for a broad arrange of scratchbuilding projects. Before we begin I have added pictures of almost all the needed tools and materials for this project.

Tools of the trade including your trusty stanley knife and hotglue gun

Collection of natural and artificial plants and foliage

The first step of the construction is to cut out the hardboard bases using a metal plier as shown in the tools picture. The material used for the bases is named hardboard but isn't the hard variant but the more cartonboard like variant which is used in sheets for packaging more expensive wood. After we have cut the bases we sand the edges to give us a nice and smooth finish.

Then we glue on some pieces of cork representing some elevation in the jungle floor and also creating variation for the later posing of the plants and other bits. When these pieces are dried we cover the entire piece with diluted woodglue and texture the piece with a mix of gravel and white sand. When this is dry we can now paint the piece. We paint the entire piece in a light brown color, followed by a drybrush of a cream color or the color you like or have on your tabletop. When the paintjob is done we can add the foliage using our hot glue gun and woodglue for the natural plants.

Here you can see the finished bases using a mix of natural and plastic plants. I must admit I don't know the names of the natural items used but I have seen them in many floral all year round or discount shops easpecially around festivities such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, ... The items I know by name are the pine apples which make ideal jungle plants or palm trunks as you can see in the pictures above and the natural moss which really adds some density to the bases. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will start the construction swiftly.

German Army (15-20mm)

Here are some pic's of my 1/72 airfix German infantry. These units were based for rapid fire rules. Every single unit was based on a 1 eurocents and the machineguns and mortar were based on plastic card. I hope you enjoy the photo's.

Some of the ordinary German infantry with a medic, flamethrower in the back and Rommel's dog.

Close up of Rommel's dog, the dog was from the airfixkit "bristol rocket" or such.

The German officer this unit was based on a 5 eurocent piece. Just to see that it's an officer!

The medic, this was a ordinary infantryman that was promoted to medic by painting his helmet white. The poor medic running with a white helmet in the frontline,...

A sniper this was an old "micro machines" model, I painted to fit with the airfix ones.

Machinegun unit based on plasticcard.

Heavy mortar unit based on plasticcard. The mortar is also an old piece of "micro machines" I bought 7 or even 9 years ago.

3 machinegun units and 1 heavy mortar unit.

Stay tuned more 1/72 units will follow suchs as my cheap, russian horde for WW II,

Worldwar II vehicles (15-20mm)

Here are some photo's of my worldwar II vehicles collection, this collection isn't so great but I love the playability and the cheapness of this kind of wargaming material. All the following kits are airfix or heller, I know not the best plastic kits manufacturer on the world but they were a gift for a birthday some years ago. They were all part of the d-day anniversary box except for the tiger which was bought seperatly. All the vehicles were painted with 3 different humbrol paints and weren't weathered at all (I need to buy that tamiya weatheringset).

I forgot to dust the vehicles off so please don't enlarge the photographs :p

Some photo's of my shermantank, the tracks were broken :( so i have an trackless tank :p.
Anybody some idea to solve this problem on the cheap? I really don't like the airfixkit of this vehicle, the tracks and wheels are to small and to numerous. If I buy more shermantanks in the future they will be armourfast ones, easy to assemble and the same price like the airfix or heller kit.

The DUKW, this is my most beloved model of my small collection, it was only avaible throught the D-day box (I think because I never saw a plastic kit of it).

The GMC truck was the most basic truck used by the americans during the second Worldwar. So it was included in the D-day boxed set. I also love this model but again I hate to assemble those kits.

The last vehicle from the D-day boxed set, a willy's jeep also an easy kit

I now remember that there were also 2 landingcraft, a tractor and a flak 88, German, Americans para's and soldiers were included in the boxed set. (need to find them first :p)

And last but not least the famous Tiger 1, armed with a 88mm gun. This model was camouflaged with pieces of bandage soaked into PVA glue. This was done because the paintjob was really bad and the tracks were missing!! Yes, I had broke the tracks again? Did anyone experienced this also with old airfixkits?

So I hope you enjoyed the photographs but stay tuned for more,...
