Random Ramblings: Mantic Games Returning Soul into Fantasy Wargaming!

No this is not a usual news post but I have recently stumbled upon this photo that was posted on the Mantic Games website showing a large game of Kings of War during their succesful open day. Nothing special you think but if you take a closer look at their massive table you don't only see seas of finely painted Mantic Games fantasy miniatures but also Games Workshop orc archers and even some excellent converted plastic elephants!

Still wondering what's special about that? I was quite surprised and pleased when I saw this nice mix of miniatures as in Games Workshop shops and their tournaments you may solely use their own miniatures which makes sense in a business perspective but isn't representing the imagination, that in my opinion defines fantasy wargaming and is a large part of the fun when assembling armies.

Although I don't own a large amount of nice fantasy miniatures, I always love to see converted beasts of war from either cheap plastic toys and all sorts of other nasty critters. I also love to see a great variety of miniatures made by different manufacturers mixed in the same army all blended together with a nice and cohesive paintjob slightly covering the scale differences often encountered when using historical miniatures in your fantasy armies.

Even more splendid is the news that Mantic Games will be giving away no less then 5.000 free mini-rulebooks of their Kings of War fantasy ruleset to hobby stores and conventions! Not going to their shows and you don't have the ruleset yet? You can also download it for free! yes, entirely free from the Mantic Games website by following this link.

I hope this random rambling post was an interesting read! Where are you waiting for grab the free rules and some random miniature units from your historical and fantasy armies and give the Kings of war rules a try. You won't regret it as I have played the game using the mini-rulebook which was added in their starter sets and the game was great fun as it was easy but still challenging!
