Commando Miniatures: New Release! Ferret Mark 1: It's taken a while, but we are very pleased to announce the availability of this important addition to our range. The Ferret was introduced in 1952 as a replacement for the World War Two era Daimler Dingo Scout Car. Production continued until 1971 and the Ferret remained in service with the British Army until after the Gulf War of 1991. Over 4,400 Ferrets were produced in various Marks and the vehicle saw service with the armed forces of more than 20 countries. Apart from the British Army the Ferret was deployed by the French in Algeria, the Portuguese in Angola, not to mention the Indian, Australian, New Zealand and South African armies. Ferrets were also used by Irish troops in a UN peace keeping role in the Congo. We are delighted to be able to offer this unique model at the bargain price of £10.50 - check our website for details.
Commando is continuing to expand its range of miniature figures, vehicles and other items for wargamers and collectors. We aim to concentrate on the periods and theatres that other miniature companies appear to have forgotten. Our range now includes the Indonesian Confrontation and the Aden Emergency of the 1960s. No other manufacturer covers these conflicts, yet the deployment of troops, aircraft and ships to Aden alone was on a scale well beyond that committed to Afghanistan today, while 27,000 British and Commonwealth troops defended North Borneo during the Confrontation.
Our first vehicle, the Land Rover Series I/II was one of the most ubiquitous post war military vehicles with thousands serving in dozens of armed forces and paramilitary organisations. Despite that distinction, no other manufacturer provides a similar model in any scale. By the same token, no one else makes a Ferret Mark 1 in 1/56 scale. We are proud to be the miniatures company who boldly goes where none has gone before!
