Here are some pictures of my craters, these are I think 2 or 3 years old and have served many German and American soldiers well as they provided that needed cover to assault a bunker or survive an artillerybarrage!!
These craters were made of circles which were cut out polystryn with my hotwire tool.
I really love the hotwire tool! After that I prepared the cd-bases and attached a piece of cartonboard above the holes in the cd's. then I sanded the craters and glued them on the cd-bases. then I applied some filler in and around the crater to fill out some gaps and errors, also I used the filler to smooth up the transition between the crater and the base.
After all that work, I textured the crater and base with: PVA, sand and some small piles of grind.
Then I painted the entire piece in a brown tone and drybrushed it with a lighter brown tone. To represent the burned and wasted hole, I simply drybrushed that particular area with black. After the painting I added some static grass and the craters were ready to use in a wargame.
