WYSIWY Games: 50 Years of the Planet of the Apes Miniatures!

WYSIWY Games: Fifty years ago today, on February 8th, 1968, The Planet of the Apes was released in theaters, changing science fiction forever.  We at WYSIWYGames grew up on the Planet of the Apes—not literally (mostly)—and followed the stories of Taylor, Cornelius, and Dr. Zaius, and then, as adults, we encountered a whole new cast of characters like Caesar, Maurice, and Koba. It’s our privilege now to play a small part in the ongoing saga of these beloved characters, films, and novels.

In honor of this fifty year anniversary we’d like to share some exciting previews of what we have planned for Planet of the Apes: The Miniatures Boardgame. Below, you’ll see the first 3D renders of our plastic trees, close-up shots of our all-new human soldiers, and a first look at some examples of what you’ll be able to do with our boardgame figures and a little paint.

We hope to see some of you at upcoming events this winter and spring, including the International Games Festival in Cannes, France, this February 23-25th, and then at Adepticon outside of Chicago, Illinois, March 22-25th. We’ll have painted figures and a new surprise for attendees at these shows, but you might get a sneak peek via our mailing list first… But without further adieu, feast your eyes upon the future of the Apes!

WYSIWY Games: Planet of The Apes - The Miniature Boardgame Scenery and Miniatures preview

WYSIWY Games: 2017 has been a wild year for us at WYSIWYGames; we attended half a dozen gaming conventions around the world, met thousands of amazing gamers, and watched a whole lot of Planet of the Apes movies.

Development and playtesting is progressing well and we're currently speaking with various manufacturers to make sure the final product is as great as it can be! Thanks to all of you who have joined our growing army and supported us on the beginning of this amazing ride!

With 2018 just around the corner, we’re excited to launch our new website where you'll be able to get the latest information on each of our games. Its first focus will be for the upcoming Planet of the Apes Miniatures Boardgame, with galleries of miniatures, concept art, sneak peeks of prototypes, and of course a link to the Kickstarter campaign when it launches during spring 2018. The next update to the site will be a section for Z First Impact, the first game from 'Apes designer, Hervé Sagnier, which we are excited to announce will be coming to the English-speaking world in 2018. More on that soon! That's it for housekeeping, so how about some sneak peeks to kickoff your holidays? Many of you have been asking for a look at the human soldier models for Planet of the Apes and we’ve been listening. Here’s a first look at some 3D renders:

These are not finalized but as you can see, they’ll make well-armed and canny opponents for your ape heroes. We've got one more preview for you - a first look at a prototype tree! If you’ve had the chance to play our demo at a convention this year, you’re aware that the trees of Muir Woods are an integral part of the game experience, since they can be used by your apes to swing around as they fight for the future of the world. Each tree will be comprised of a few snap-together pieces allowing easy storage and quick assembly.

WYSIWY Games: Planet of The Apes - Miniature Boardgame!

WYSIWY Games announced that they will developing a Planet of The Apes boardgame including large scaled miniatures! The game will be crowdfunded through Kickstarter in spring 2018.

The tabletop game is being developed by Hervé Sagnier, French developer of the tabletop game Z First Impact. Planet of the Apes: The Miniatures Board Game will showcase teams of apes and humans duking it out in a dystopian future. There will be multiple three-dimensional game boards, dozens of plastic miniatures, and other high-quality components. As you can see the Caesar miniature will measure 38mm and looks to be on an integral scenic base.
