Recently received news from Shapeways that they have launched a dedicated model train railway page! Not really familiar with the whole printing on demand industry to be honest, I decided to take a closer look at the models that could be useful for wargame purposes.
First of all the science fiction section featuring a dazzling array of futuristic mechs and space fighters along with interesting scenery pieces such as barrels and control panels. My personal favorite of the whole bunch looking at both the design and price tag is the Star Wars N-1 Naboo Starfighter. Without doubt the slickest design of space fighters in the Star Wars movies!
The second interesting section are the vehicles of which you can find the dedicated section here. This section overlaps the science fiction section but has also some other vehicles. Again my favorite designs are the space vessels and you can even find a very nice wolf head for the dreaded Imperial Knight Titan as pictured below.
Last but not least is the new model train section. To be honest not into the railway modelling hobby but the range includes a large amount of really interesting vehicles which can easily be used as decorations for small scale historical and science fiction wargames. Check the new model train section here.
The last thing I wanted to share is that you can even get models cast in metal and porcelain instead of the common plastic material often offered. The production process is the same as with the plastic models but these models are then used to create moulds for metal and porcelain casting! So again an interesting new way of getting more wargame models to your tabletop without necessary modelling experience! Interested in seeing the large range of models available at Shapeways, check them here.
