Mantic Games: Terrain Crate - Starship Scenery Reviewed!

Today we will take a look the Mantic Games Terrain Crate Starship Scenery designed for their Deadzone, science fiction skirmish game. This boxed set is packed with all sorts of cool scenery such as tables, crates, weapon racks and much more decorative pieces. Let's take a closer look at this affordable science fiction scenery right now!

The Terrain Crate Starship Scenery

The Mantic Games Terrain Crate Starship Scenery is packed in a sturdy quality cartonboard box with plastic inlay for all the included scenery pieces. The packaging is great as you can also safely store your painted scenery in the original packaging for transport or storage. Note that I have purchased this set quite some time ago and the packaging might have been changed in the meanwhile so check before purchasing although the content should still be the same as featured below.

The Starship Scenery set includes no less than 26 pieces of pre-assembled bendable plastic scenery pieces to decorate your wargame table. There are 13 unique scenery pieces in the set but all of these are supplied double so in total 26 included pieces. Although sold as Starship Scenery the terrain is quite generic so easily usable for other setting such as miltary bases, civilian spaceports and so on. The quality of the pieces is good although some pieces are bend and sometimes a bit sloppy pre-assembled. These issues are most noticable on the bigger and thinner items such as the tables but can be solved by straightening the pieces, by dipping them in hot warm and reforming them. These pieces are designed for 28-32mm miniatures and are compatible with most current wargame miniature ranges.

The material of the scenery pieces is some sort of plastic, to be honest not an expert on these matters but is certainly not hard-plastic as your warhammer miniatures. The material is slightly bendable depending on the thickness of the piece so if you drop the piece there will be less damage than with a hard-plastic, metal or resin piece. I actually prefer this material as it is less prone to breakage and damage but with more or less the same detail as resin scenery pieces but at a fraction of the cost.

Every GCPS lab is equipped to the highest standard for those working there. In fact, the equipment found in these facilities is deemed to be worth more than the staff operating it. This set contains 26 pieces of pre-assembled plastic scenery, designed for 28mm sci-fi games, including: 6 Terminals, 4 Tables, 2 Desks, 6 Crates, 4 Cabinets, 2 Weapon Racks and 2 Specimen Tanks. Scenery supplied assembled and unpainted.

The Conclusion

If you're looking for affordable and sturdy science fiction scenery for your miniature wargames, I think these pieces are certainly worth considering as they are quality pieces. Although the plastic is bendable it also makes the pieces more resilient to damage and breakage. Quite happy with these pieces and with a bit of work they make decent and unique decorative pieces to create a more detailled wargame table or supply you with some great objectives for during the gameplay. This boxed is now named SciFi Scenery in the Mantic Games webstore and sells for €24.99.
