Micro Art Studio is a wargame miniature and scenery company based in Poland, originally founded as a miniature and model hobby collective. Through the years they have grown exponentially currently employing loads of talented hobbyists, sculptors and designers. They offer an extensive range of resin, hard foam and high density fiberboard scenery sets but also miniature bases, markers, tokens, templates, Wolsung, fantasy, science fiction miniatures and other. Micro Art Studio is also an official partner for Corvus Belli's hugely popular Infinity science fiction miniature skirmish game for which they supply high quality terrain and accessories. Another important moment in company's history was when in 2008 Micro Art Studio signed a contract with Colin Smythe Ltd - agent of Sir Terry Pratchett; from that moment company started production of 30mm miniatures of Discworld characters and busts.
The scenery as shown in this review are the Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot (€41.82) and the Stars Wars Legion Cargo Crates (€27.06) now available in the Micro Art Studio webstore along with plenty of other cool scenery pieces. Check all available scenery pieces here
Star Wars Legion Cargo Crates
With scatter terrain so important in many skirmish miniature wargames as either much needed cover for your lightly armored troopers or as important objectives for your missions, Micro Art Studio decided to release these magnificient Star Wars Legion Cargo Crates. Cast in high-quality resin and most excellently detailled these scenery pieces will bring your tabletop to life especially when used together with the massive Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot which we will review later on.
The Micro Art Studio Star Wars Legion Cargo Crates scenery set contains five resin terrain pieces each featuring a collection of lovely designed science fiction crates and barrels much suited for the Star Wars universe and other science fiction miniature wargames. These Star Wars Legion Cargo Crates are designed to be used with 28-30mm miniatures and the quality of these resin cast scenery pieces is second to none with only some minor airbubbles present on the castings. These lovely scenery pieces are supplied in a lovely illustrated boxed set packed with foam chips to avoid damage.

Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot
The most impressive building available in the Micro Art Studio Star Wars Legion catalogue, is the Imperial Depot. The Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot is designed as a two part building which can be used as one large structure or two smaller identical scenery pieces. The design of the building is magnificient and it's really one of the best scenery model kits I have encountered lately because of the cool shape and look of the building along with the added detail in the form of different thicknesses which really breaks the flat look of the hangar building, a look some common for laser cut buildings.
The Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot is supplied as a well-designed laser cut scenery model kit containing several sheets of HDF (high-density fiberboard) in two different thicknesses and will need assembly using woodglue. The assembly of this model kit looks at first very daunting due to the scale and amount of components but is in fact very easy and straight forward because of the inclusion of the construction manual and the easily removable and well-fitting component parts. For the construction of the Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot I used a combination of white woodglue and superglue allowing me to construct the building faster without having to wait on the drying of the white woodglue. Micro Art Studio recommends woodglue for the construction and so do I as the bonds will be much stronger but you can always use some superglue to speed up the assembly.
In the pictures below you can see the large structure shown as one piece and one smaller half of the building with removed roof showing the great interior detail in the form of the walkways most suited for snipers and the like. As you can see this is a rather impressive structure made out of sturdy high-density fiberboard and further decorated with thinner fiberboard bringing out additional detail and texture to the building. The building is also supplied with sliding doors allowing you to represent the building with both open and closed doors if you don't glue these in place!
The Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot is a magificient structure, actually more like a battlefield on its own due to the great size and lovely detail. As mentionned before this structure is designed in two parts which can be used on their own or combined in one super large hangar. The Imperial Depot has removable roofs, sliding doors and internal walkways wide enough to place Star Wars Legion miniatures and other miniatures on there. Designed for Star Wars Legion this scenery pieces gives sufficient cover for AT-ST and the AT-RT even fits inside the structure! I don't own any Star Wars Legion miniatures but have taken some pictures using some other science fiction miniatures and vehicles from my collection. These miniatures as shown are scaled 28mm and the vehicles 25mm.
The Conclusion
As to be expecting from Micro Art Studio, the quality and design of the Star Wars Legion Imperial Depot and Cargo Crates is superb with loads of great detail and an excellent finish. Although designed with Star Wars Legion in mind, these scenery pieces can easily be used for other popular miniature wargames such as Warhammer 40K and Infinity to name a few. If you're looking for some great scatter terrain you will be more than happy with the Cargo Crates which offer sufficient cover for wargame miniatures while the massive Imperial Depot is most suited to dominate the battlefield as a great center piece for a science fiction battlefield. These pieces are now available at Micro Art Studio here along with plenty of other nice scenery for your miniature wargames.
