The longest day

Hi, I decided to post some pictures I took during a holiday in Normandy, we were walking throught the seatown of Port a Bessin and suddenly I noticed something strange? An old advertisment was referring to the bazaar of Ouistreham and yes then I was suddenly struck by the scene of the longest day, one of my favorite warmovies. The scene were Lovat and his troops are attacking the casino of Ouistreham.

After that I saw the small tower, were British soldiers were laying down a hail of lead on the German defenders of the casino before been killed by the German 3.7cm Pak40 in the casino's basement.

I really enjoyed this holiday which took place in 2009, lots of war musea, shops with militaria and modelkits (bought an Airfix crab Sherman tank there), ...

See both location in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzd1gCc5CO8

Advertissement: 0:54-1:00
Tower: 3:12-3:35

And next some museums I visited with the family:

- Arromanches, musée de débarquement
- Arromanches 360 cinema
- Musée airborne, Saint mère église
- Point du hoc (free entrance I think)
- Juno beach centre, Courselles sur Mer
- Gunbattery, Longues sur Mer (free entrance)
- Largest american cemetery near Omaha Beach (70 hectares!)
- A real large musea with PAK 40, FLAK 88, M10 tankdestroyer and Churchil crocodil!

However I haven't visted all museums in Normandy I did my best to see as much as possible.

Thanks to http://plasticwarriors.blogspot.com/2010/05/longest-day.html for the inspiration to post this post.

Nice post. I am impressed that it still looks just like the movie which is almost 50 yrs old!

But I am pretty sure they were the Free French Commando who carried out the attack under Lord Lovats operational command.
